question about socks..

I've noticed now that winter is really here my feet are ALWAYS cold.  It wasn't so bad last winter, but I'm way smaller than I was then and I have a hard time keeping my hands & feet warm, especially hard when I run outside -  does anyone have any preferences for athletic socks that keep your feet warm & dry all at the same time?  Has anyone tried any specific brands that they like?  Wool?

thanks!

I haven't found anything that works real well.  I use shoe covers when cycling.
The last winter triathlon I ran, I actually got some of those chemical foot/hand warmers and stuck them down in my shoe.
They were pretty thin and I didn't notice them at all for the short 5k portion of the run.
I'm not sure I'd like that for a longer run.

I think part of the problem is going to be the bulkiness vs warmth issue.
Maybe there is a base layer type cloting you could try.  Check out an REI or something like that.

Here is another assortment of recommendations for winter running socks

A local running store might be a better place to check or, check with your local running club for hands on recommendations.  With the store you could look and touch before you bought.

Good luck, please let me know what you find.

I have used a thick wool sock and they were alright.  Better than regular socks but the toes were still a bit numb at the end.  Shoes are designed now to keep the feet cool and boy do they work well in the winter.
