First Race on Thurs, how should I train and eat this week?
How far is the race.
What type of surgery did you have. You don't want to stray too far from your regular diet depending on your surgery.
If I am going to increase my carbs, it is done 2 days prior to the race, decreasing with each meal, and it is done and back to normal food intake by the time I go to bed the night before the race.
Don't eat anything that you haven't tried in practice, especially on race day. Race day is no time to try out the new energy gu/gel/bean/whatever, Just like it's no day to strap on the new shoes for the first time. Both are a recipe for disaster.
The week of you generally lighten up on your running, make sure you get in some stretching etc.
If the race is short it might not matter, but if it is a long race, then you want your legs to be fresh, but still nice and loose, so I don't give up running that week, but I severely cut it down, just a couple miles to keep the legs loose.
Good luck
Scott
