smoothe mixing protein powder

Any suggestions for a smoothe mixing protein powder.
I have tried several and they all clump.  I have tried using the blender, the spoon, and the shaker bottle and they are all still clumpy.  I have tried using water, milk, soy milk and almond milk.  No difference.  I get the best results from the blender, but even then I find that there are chunks of it left in the bottom of the blender when I get to the bottom.  This is a pain especially at work where I can't break out the blender and go to town on it because of noise issues.  Our customer/public area is within ear shot of the kitchen, so we have to keep noise to a minimum

I don't mind the premixed drinks from the store, but they are a bit expensive to be drinking in the same quantities as the protein powder.

Another question.  I heard that you shouldn't premix and store the protein drinks.  Can anyone confirm this or do you have a brand that is ok to do this with.  If I could mix up a batch the night before at home in the blender and then bring that to work that would help, or if you can mix up a larger quantity for the week.  I just don't want to waste it.  I did try this early on and I found that it created a layer of foam by the end of the day.  It wasn't appealing looking and I wasn't going to chance drinking it.

Thanks

Hey Scott,
I have been making smoothie's for over six years now.  I actually give smoothie demo making classes a couple times a year.  The secret is the Magic Bullet.  It works like a charm.   I make my smoothies in the morning and take them to work to enjoy as a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack.  I use Unjury powder (regular, vanilla, and choc) and light soy milk in my creations.  I use frozen fruit (raspberries, blueberries,  and pineapples), oatmeal and peanut butter.   Never clumps.
I have read that the protein does break down when stored so it's better just to make it daily.  Never buy it when you can make it yourself and limit what is put in it.  Good luck.

Thanks, I have been considering getting one of the Magic Bullets, but I wasn't sure it was worth the price when a regular blender is 10-20 bucks and the magic bullet is 50.00

I guess I'll have to stop being cheap and give it a try.

I do 1-2 scoops of Body Fortress (Walmart Special) with c\blueberry, pinnaple, banana, apple juice, vanilla yogurt, ice, strawberry, honey, milk, and sometimes some OJ... Good stuff and a huge tub costs $14 for Whey... (52G for 2 scoops)

Not all at once right

Nah that sounds good, I haven't tried mixing it with fruit juices.  I have used fruit and ice and flavorings like davinci or torani, but I hadn't tried juice yet.

I'll have to give that a try.

Thanks

The ingredients in my post are what I use at once in every shake I make.... its about 24-32 ounces usually... I try to get 500-700 calories from my smoothies... My target caloric intake is, depending on activity, 4000 - 5000 calories a day and 150 G of protein...

I'd be 400 pounds again.
I'm not burning nearly the calories that you are.

Thanks for sharing the recipes though.

Oh yeah... And I also put in some splenda or stivia and cinnamon in with that, also a little bit of vanilla extract...

I didn't get any better results from the Magic Bullet as the regular blender. The reason I used the Magic Bullet (before it broke) was because there was less clean-up and I could use it every day no matter what my kids did with the dishwasher. I actually preferred my immersion blender stick, but it broke too.

I use Whey Gourmet Smooth PB & Chocolate and Chike (various flavors) and haven't had an issue with clumping. They do sometimes, but most of the time they don't. I put in the ice and water first and then the powder. When I put in the powder first, it is more likely not to mix thoroughly.

You aren't supposed to mix them up ahead of time because, once you add in the liquid, they start to denature. Whether that destroys their nutritional value is a matter of debate. When you cook eggs, the egg whites turning white is an example of denaturing, but I've never heard someone say you shouldn't cook your eggs because it destroys the protein. But these protein powders are so engineered and the isolates are predigested so it's more believable that the quality of the protein would degrade as they denature.

Thanks for all the suggestions,
I got a magic bullet and I love it already.  It is going to work with me so I can make protein shakes at work.
