I'm a kidding myself? Half Marathon???

A friend invited me to run a half marathon on Dec. 13th. I run about 9 miles a week, if I'm lucky.
I have no problem getting through 3 miles (each workout) and probably could do more. I just lack the time. I run and work out between work and picking up my children. My schedule is insane. Am I kidding myself to think I could make a half marathon by Dec? I'm going to try and fit the long runs in on Saturdays. Is this enough? Should I just stick to the 5k? I just don't know if I will feel accomplished. I used to do 5k all the time before my weight issues. I'm back to the size I was when I was a runner....so it's time start doing them again. Yippee!!!

Yes, it's the White Rock one. Thanks for much for the encourgement. I can't get it off my mind. Just when I think I won't be ready and dismiss the idea, it comes back to me. I want to do it really bad. My goal would be just to finish. I've been running regularly for about a year now. Do you know if there is a time limit to particpate? I know some of them require you to finish in X amount of time. Thanks again for the encouragement. Good luck to you and your wife!

The marathon, which starts at the same time is 7 hours I believe, so you will probably have 4-5 hours I would guess....You live in Dallas?

It is a short time. I'd say it's probably about a month short. For one thing, you don't want to up your mileage by more than 10% a week or you risk injury.

Most of the Half Marathon training plans I found online were 12 weeks in length. Why not start one of them and sign up for a different Half that's a bit farther away?

Thanks for the advice. I live about 60 miles from Dallas (closest training place) so it's not an option for me. I would have to train on my own. My goal is only to finish the race so I know with constant running and recovery time, I can reach those goals. I just have to continue to believe in myself. It will happen in due time. Thanks again.

I'm confused... what's not an option for you? I didn't say anything about training at a training center...

I'm multi-tasking this morning. I must have read your post too quickly. My mistake.

Run what you can and walk the rest.  You can do it.  Just have fun.
