blister treatment and prevention
Hola,
I'm looking for suggestions for blister prevention and their after care should you get some.
After my 10 mile run the other day, my little toes were wrecked. So any suggestions for prevention first and treatment second?
Thanks
Scott

Prevention: go up a half size in your running shoes.
I need to do that myself as my current ones tend to bruise one of my toes.

I guess that means I'm limited to NewBalance, they are the only ones who make shoes wide enough to fit me. Any other brand and I'm already increasing the size to get my foot into them.
I'd end up with clown shoes if I had to get them any bigger.
Now I'm picturing Borat in the thong with clown shoes.
Darn you Dan.

Scott, I use BlisterShield Roll-On to prevent blisters on my feet. It's been pretty effective, except during nonstop rain. www.trisports.com/blro.html
I also have a pair of Injinji toe socks, but I haven't been able to get used to them.

I stay FAR AWAY from cotton socks, and get the kind with the Y-heel so they don't migrate down your foot as you run and the really smooth toe seam. Plus, I dab on Vaseline (AKA petroleum jelly) to prevent chafing all over, from nipples to underarms to toes, and I have one spot on my anklebone that was vulnerable at first. REALLY slather it on--it makes your foot far more comfortable with all that motion.
Treatment: Wash with soap and water. Allow to air dry. Spend as much time as possible with your feet out in the open air so the wounds can scab up (if the skin is rubbed raw) and to prevent exposure to damp, hot, sweaty conditions that can encourage bacterial or fungal growth. Moisturize regularly with a heavy, fragrance-free lotion like Gold Bond or some such. I know, I know--don't be such a GUY about MOISTURIZING--it is very important!!
As more and more weight comes off, don't be surprised if your shoe size changes as well. Keep getting rechecked for size before each new pair of shoes. The right size of shoe can greatly aid in the prevention of blisters. When I was at my heaviest, I was a size 8WW. Now my foot is a 7W, but for convenience in finding running shoes, the Nike 8's work very well, and give my toes plenty of room.
Good luck in your quest to remain blister-free!
