Saturday workouts
I finally got me a Garmin Forerunner 305. this is the best investment I have made for my upcoming marathons, well I guess other than my shoes. My plan called for a 5 mile run, but since I had to cancel a couple workouts this week with the 1st week of school being so hectic, I decided to go for a 6.23 mile run. I was finally able to keep the pace I was supposed to run. The run called for a 10:40 pace and I was able to finish the 6.23 miles at a 10:41 pace. I set the alerts for a top pace of 10:35 and a low pace of 10:45. Those alerts were great. I didnt wear my ipod so I could hear the alerts. I never needed the music. I might as well get used to not having listening to music during long runs since I cant when I do my 70.3 half ironman races next season.I felt really good and wanted to run more, but my youngest daughter had a volleyball tournament about an hour and a half away, so I wanted to go see her for once since I never get to because I coach. They won their 1st 2 games and are playing in the championship game at 6 tonight.

Darrell, have fun putting that Garmin to use. It's a great tool!
Today was an 11-mile run along the hilly half marathon course that I'm running next month. We ended up running negative splits because the weather was so cooperative - 60 degrees and overcast for the full distance.
Mile 1 - 11:06
Mile 2 - 10:43
Mile 3 - 10:25
Mile 4 - 10:22
Mile 5 - 10:18
Mile 6 - 10:03
Mile 7 - 10:11
Mile 8 - 10:17
Mile 9 - 9:49
Mile 10 - 9:43
Mile 11 - 9:08

Wow! You guys rock! Maybe I should check out the Garmin for pacing.
Today I wore bike shorts for running for the first time ever. I didn't realize how HOT my legs got in my long pants. It felt great to have the wind on my legs for a change. I did an easy 5.1 mile run on a fairly level course, just a very slight grade. I felt very virtuous running on a Saturday!
I also realized that it was time to do some serious shoe shopping. My old Nike Structure Triaxs are showing some definite wear. Does anyone wear any special kind of athletic insole? I may need one--I seem to have a fairly low arch.

I love my Garmin too.
I did a 7.5 mile run at the gym. It was too hot to run outside.
