To Do Steelhead or not
I registered at the begining of the season for steel head him. After I registered I had a LBL 5/11 and was unable to train for 8 weeks.
I am just starting to get back into the swing of things workout wise. I am by no means prepared for the race. My longest run post LBL has been 6 miles. I have done 40 on the bike and have spent some time in the pool.
I feel I could pull off the swim and bike but the run would be a real stretch.
With race weekend upon us I am getting the itch to give it a go.
Common sense says I should get my dr to write a note and defer to next year and sign up for a sprint now and find an olympic later in the season.
Any advice?

If not, get the medical note and defer.
If you are going to relay, send me a PM and I can get you hooked up with my sponsor, Trakkers, for their beta test.
I'm with Sherry on this one. Going from longest run of 6 miles to half-marathon as a stand alone you'd be really tempting injury let alone having a pleasurable experience. Combine that with the swim/run that's going to be pushing you and I think you're setting yourself up for a seriously unenjoyable race -- if you manage to not hurt yourself in the process.
I'm not sure about the relay but that's really the only viable/realistic option for you unfortunately. I'd get that doctors note and defer to next year. There are some great tri's yet coming up.
If you have an itch to still be there volunteer and that'll at least get you into the action a little. After my TT I still had drainage tubes 8 weeks out and there's no way I could've even considered doing any part of this race so kudos on getting to the level you're at so quickly!!!

Thanks guys for being the voice of reason. When I decided to go ahead with the LBL I knew the race was not going to happen. I respect the difficulty of the event far too much to think I could complete without appropriate training
I definately do not have the base needed tor this event. I am surprised how much the surgery took out of me. And when I think about this logically I have enough respect for the event to think I could succeed without real preparation.
I guess it was the hype of race week. Today I tried to convince myself that I could go and just try to finish. Then I got home tonight and saw Dans pre race post and was ready to load up the bike and call in sick tomorrow.
Sanity wins. I am going to regroup and adjust my timelines for my goals.
Have a great race Dan!

Nah bro.... Play it safe and defer... You will ENJOY it more next year when you are all rested. Of course I am saying this and am having LBL in NOvember and running a 100 mile Trail run in February :).....The way I say it, it will be tough to enjoy 100 miles either way

I'd agree with everyone else. I'd go for the medical waiver, and reschedule it for next year. In addition I'd say sign up to volunteer at the race, and take part that way. I'm sure you could still pick a pretty good gig that would allow you to get involved. My daughter and I volunteered there in 2007 and loved it.
Just a thought.

If it were my choice I would definitely defer till next year. Plus, the healing from the LBL according to my surgeon takes about three months. The scarring takes about six months. Not sure if yours was covered by insurance or not, but it won't be the second time if it gets messed up.

Yah, it took a long time for me to recover from LBL and thigh lift. I ran a 10k 5 weeks after LBL/thigh lift.
I even got an infection and a trip to the hospital b/c the cure for the infection caused C-Diff.
When I was recovering from that I bought a bike...my run didn't really come bac****il a few months later. I had a lot of swelling.
