i finally broke down and bought a road bike yesterday, it is a specialized allez, which is a pretty low end/starter model, mostly aluminum with carbon fork and tube that goes to the seat.  my first ride will be tomorrow, i'll let you know how i do, i'm shooting low, going to go for at least 15 miles to guage myself (as the bike leg of my first sprint tri in september is for 15 miles).
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Congrats!!!  I have an older aluminum bike (probably 6 or 7 years old I guess) and you know it works great.  I notice a huge difference between my aluminum bike and my tri bike (carbon) and I think the fork/seat tube being carbon will greatly cushion the ride over straight aluminum.  Have fun with it and ride that bike into the ground!!! -- well, not literally into the ground, no falling on your first ride, lol

Specialize makes great starter bikes IMO. Good choice!
