hip injury

I love power walking and am training for a 1/2 marathon on August 2nd.  The bad thing is that Saturday I was doing some speed work (at least speed work for a walker) and injured my hip.  The gym manager and my husband both think I strained a tendon in my hip.  The pain is anterior, right in the joint.

Anyway, I am so upset and depresse about the fact that I need to take it easy.  Like an idiot, I thought that strolling 7.5 miles on Tuesday would be alright - nope!  Any suggestions on what to do, in addition to rest, to speed up the healing.

Any thoughts on activity that wouldn't hurt the hip?

Thanks for your insight.

Hips take a beating when running or walking, so like a knee injury, resting it for a week would be advisable.  You should also try to see a sports injury specialist or at the very least, a chiropractor, that can evaluate the injury better to see if its just a tendon or if there's some joint damage.

As for activities, non-weight bearing ones would be good, like walking a pool would relieve the stress while allowing you maintain some fitness.  But again, getting evaluated by a medical professional would be the first step

Good luck
