Great race report and congrats, what an accomplishment. inspiring is not the word. And the story about your brother and you racing together was great. How did your bro end up with the race? I'm assuming he finished as one of the pics he was wearing a medal.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

Way to go Dan!!! Awesome, awesome report. I am not known as a sentimental person, but as I sat and reflected on my own journey I noticed a lump forming in my throat. I feel like the White Rock Marathon will be the nail in my obesity coffin. Thanks for the pictures and the story and congratulations go out to your brother for doing the race and your sister for being there to support both of you. And of course to your very understanding wife and children.

Your post made me teary -- what an amazing journey you've been on and an even better one that you're moving onto next with the full Ironman. I am so impressed with your strength of spirit and body.
I am in the considering stage of WLS. I was originally going for banding but my surgeon is likely not going to recommend it due to some esophageal issues I have. I am not afraid of RNY, per se, but one of my main reasons for WLS is to get back to being a runner. Your post has showed me that not only can I get back to running with RNY, I can do a whole danged ultrathon if I want to!
Congratulations to your and your bro. I can't wait to read your next race report.
And BTW, you are 100% right in that you are a triathlete, not the obese man who became one. You're hardcore.
Take care
