1st 5k
Shane,
Congratulations on making the commitment to the run.
Taking a day or two off before the run won't hurt you in the least. The training you have done in the weeks before hand will carry you through the run nicely.
As far as eating goes, don't eat anything heavy or different before you run. Try to keep it light. You can eat afterwards.
The main piece of advice is to relax and enjoy the fellowship and the since of accomplishment of what you are doing!!!

When I did my 5K, I treated it like a heavy workout. So I cut out one workout that week so I wasn't doing an extra day.
I had my normal breakfast -- a protein shake -- and then a banana and a protein bar afterwards.
