10K Race Report

Today’s 10K was for diehards who weren’t afraid of rain, snow, sleet and wind.  After an early spring, Mother Nature decided to remind us Central New Yorkers who was boss.   For the first 3 miles, we ran into a 30 mph headwind with gusts of 40 to 50 mph.  At the turn-around point, I figured at least the wind will be my friend and escort me to the finish.  No such luck.  The wind pushed us back with all its might making us fight for every step.  Weighed down by rain-soaked clothes, I felt like I had gained 10 pounds and was just sloshing down the road.   I finished in 58:59 for a 9:30 pace.  If weather conditions had been better, I think I would have hit my target of 54 minutes, but you can’t mess with Mother Nature.

I think running a 10k in those conditions makes you a super-hero.

YAY! You did wonderful! Yes...running in the rain makes your clothes heavy! I did a 16 miler in the rain once with a LS tech shirt. Whoops. That was HEAVY!

Great job, Cassie!  Running is quite an event this time of year.  I hate the wind, because I always figure it will be in my face.  You did a great job fighting through the elements and finishing in a great time.  The next one you can go for time!  Keep making us proud.

Cassie,

You did a wonderful job, despite Mother Nature being against you.  You should be proud of yourself.
