I have a question.  My MD says that I can't do anykind of weight training until 8 weeks, but I wonder about pilates, yoga, or just aerobics?  anybody with any suggestions?

I know that you can't wait to get at it but as someone with an incisonal hernia due to, "too much, too soon", I would really recommend that you take it slowly.  I would wait on the classes for at least the 8 weeks.  Try to really listen to your body and see what it tells you at 8 weeks.

My surgeon said to wait 6 weeks which I did.  I only walked in that time.  After 6 weeks, I felt like I needed some more time and I waited another 2 weeks.  I gradually started with the weights at 8 weeks and like I said, still ended up with the hernia.  Take it slowly.

They told me nothing that would put stress on the abdominal area.
Walking, elliptical machine etc were o.k.

I love Pilates but I wasn't willing to do them until my incisions were well healed inside and out. I started them at about 2 months out. They really work your abdominal muscles.

But I was back in the gym on the bike at 2 weeks.
