I am preparing for a 1/2 marathon and eventually a full marathon and am putting quite few miles in.

My question is this:  What are your favorite tunes on your ipod to help you get through the miles?

I have an ecletic mix on mine:  country, old rock, a little rap and some pop.

Sweet Home Alabama
Black Water
Running on Empty

Sometimes I like the music.  Sometimes it drives me nuts.  I have a lot of alternative music with a high tempo beat.  I usually go to itunes every month or so and find the new hot songs and get a few.

Okay... I am usually a Nine Inch Nails, Tool, rock kinda chic..... but I love love love to run to Christina Aguilera's song Fighter.  The chorus makes be run my tail end off!

'Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

I have a 2GB waterproof mp3 player I run, bike and swim (although strangely enough I've never used it while swimming) with. It's filled with anything that has a strong bass or house beat. At my age 80s songs that bring back memories can work too. For some weird reason Rage Against the Machine is the best for keeping me going on the longer runs/rides. They even have a song that has antagonistic lyrics towards the company where I work. Funny. I usually remove a few songs every month or two and add some of the latest hiphop/pop. One thought is you might want to take any music you have and reduce it to 160 or 128bits. That way you can cram more variety on if you find you're bumping up against your player's space limit. Can't handle country sorry.
