So the first race of the year is done.  I'm still not thrilled, because I had to walk part of it, but my overall time was my personal best.
36:17 total time.
11:36 pace
146 Average Heart Rate
48.8 - 50 degrees at time of race.
1 -3 mph winds.
I'm not sure if this link is visible to anyone but me, but i'll give it a shot
For those of you who don't have or haven't seen the kind of info that one of the gps heart rate monitors can collect for you.  It's pretty cool.  They can even play back the race for you, showing you where you were on the map, what your pace was at that time etc.  Very Geek Cool.

Speedy Scott,

Great job on the first race of the year. Just think every race from here should be better than the last.

Cool info from your HR monitor. What kind of HR monitor do you have? I am looking at one, but cant decide which one to choose.

Scott,

I have my eyes on a 305. Maybe I will move a forward now that you have one as well, and have had good success with it.

Thanks

Hey Scott,

That's a great gadget.  I love how it integrates the weather info into the summary.  You'll really be able to see how different variables impact your runs.  Congratulations on starting out the year with a personal best.

Hmmm.  Interesting how your race was called the Resolution 5K and mine was the Hangover Run.  I guess you can tell that my running club is a group of drinkers with a running problem.  Nearly everyone that ran walked out of the tavern with beer, wine or liquor as a door prize.  But, then, we all needed a little something to warm the soul.  It was a measley 1-degree when we started.

Great job on your first race!  My Resolution Run is on Saturday, I'm really excited about it.

Good job, Scott!

You ARE making progress, and your run speed was pretty good.  Thanks for the link to the gps info - it's good feedback.  I'm glad to see you improving!  You're doing great.

 Congrats on the race.
So, I had decided I wouldn't run out and get a 305/405 or a new polar but after seeing the data I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it.  Got another question for you: do you import the data directly to a web-based program or is it based on your computer?  Is it Mac compatible (I remember either Polar or Garmin is but I don't know which one)?
The data is really cool!
Again, congrats on a great race!

I have 2 programs actually.
1 is called gstart and it came with the garmin.  You can keep all your info locally, here is what it looks like.

The other is called motionbased, both reside on your computer but, the motionbased uploads to the web site I listed in my first post.  They have a free based system which is what I have signed up for, they also have a fee based account which gives you more features, and it saves more of your data.  I think the free on said it will only store 10 of your workouts for you.

There is also a 3rd on that is used by beginner triathlete.com, and they have a little plug in that gets installed for uploading to their site. Here are the instructions to upload to their site, I couldn't get a screen shot of the whole thing at once, so you can check it out on their site.
beginnertriathlete garmin upload.

I like the motion based agent the best, they link into google maps and the weather to provide the extra information.  You can also play back your rage and it will show you where you were on the map at what time etc.  Very Geek-A-licious, I just love tech stuff.

The Garmin say it will work with windows 2000 or newer, or any intel based Mac or Power PC G3 or later Mac, OS X 10.4 or later.

Great job Scott.  Congrats on your PR.

That sounds like perfect running weather.  Is that cold for this time of year in CA?
