Percent incline on a treadmill

Is the level of incline on a treadmill equal to the percent of incline?

For example, if I walk at a level 5, is that 5%?

I'm trying to figure out how many calories burned, and dailyplate asks for an incline percent.

Without getting a friggin' ruler, I'm trying to figure this out!

Hmm.  Any treadmill that I have been on in the last 10 years has come right out and said what the incline is.  I would think that level 5 would be 5% though.

I agree. Mine and all the ones I have been on give the percentage incline and it's usually 0-12%.  I think a level 5 is most likely a 5% incline.

I swear it says nothing about percent, it just has levels something like 1-12.

Even at the gym the treadmill doesn't say Percent, it says level number.

UGH. I just realized how snotty my last message sounded.  I apologize!!  I completely believe you and didn't mean to imply that I didn't or that you were some sort of idiot.  I just think it's fair to assume that levels and incline % are the same thing in this case.

You could also try going to the manufacturer's website for info or even a phone number to call and make sure.  I just can't imagine that in this case Level 5 isn't the same as a 5% incline but if it keeps bugging you calling might be something to think about.

The treadmills at my gym do give percent. 5 would be 5%, but that might vary with the brand of treadmill.
