First 5K - Need Advice
My 2009 fitness goal is to do the Marine Corps 5K on May 17th and the Marine Corp 10K on October 25. Oneday I would like to do the full marathon but I am starting off realistically.
So, my question is....Is it counterproductive to train on my elliptical during the cold months? What sort of setting should I use to best simulate the real thing?
Also, I heard that the shoes make the biggest difference. What brands to you recommend on a budget?
Thanks!

As far as shoes, almost everyone will tell you to go to a running shoe specialty store and get fitted for a pair that will work best with you. They usually cost a bit more than off the rack shoes but I don't think there is a person here that would say, "it wasn't worth it". Mine are in the $110 range.
