IMAZ 'PEAK'
Well, I'm peaking...2 weeks b4 the race. My back and neck are still sore, but my sports chiro has done a lot to help me out. Dammmmm car accident!
My normal peak woulda been a 7 hour ride followed by an hour run.
Since I'm 2 weeks out, I'll be riding 5 (2 ez and 3 at race pace) followed by a one hour run.
Tomorrow 90 minute bike after a 90 minute run.
Maybe an open water swim.
I hope my back-more so my neck-hold out on me. The run is going to be really tough...
I switched my big girl 12-23 out to my 12-27. I need the extra bail-out for some confidence.
I'll give a full report when I get back.

This has nothing to do with exercise, but have you tried accupuncture?
I had a car accident in Jan. of this year, I had to have surgery to repair a disk in my neck and still have one disk with a slight herniation. I go to a chiro 3 times a week (he uses an activator for my neck because I'm not allowed manual adjustments anymore). Even with all that and pain killers I was still in a LOT of pain.
Someone suggested accupunture, I didn't give it a 2nd thought, I honestly thought it was crap and a joke. But one person said, they've been doing it in China for 2000 years, why not give it a try. So I did and now I'm hooked, it actually helps relieve the muscle spasms and the achiness that was there....
it's just a thought.

2 people in that office do accupuncture. I hadn't really thought about it, but I'll ask tomorrow. For the past week, neck/back pain didn't really cause me much of a problem during training. Then again, I didn't sit on a bike for 5 hours prior to today.
Linn-you are right. My training was going well prior to this. It's scary to "hop back in" after so much time off.
Ok.
So, it was an odd day. 45 degrees at the ride start. I wore my louis garnot cycling jersey jacket made for cold riding. I had on tri shorts w/specialized tights over those. I wore toe warmers. I cycle barefoot...so that helped a bit. I wore my halo headband and pearl izumi gloves (not padded cycling ones).
First hour: kept HR low to warm up, went a little slow. Took a while before I felt good.
Second hour: picked up pace, HR good. Stopped at end of hour to refill water. Took gloves off, fingers were swelling.
Third hour: Good pace/HR.
Went back to my car to refuel for final 2 hours.
Within 15 minutes of riding my HR went crazy. Last time that happened I was sick the next day. ZOINKS!
I took my strap off, put it in the ziploc in my back pocket. Still picked up HR.
Put it in my bento box. When my breathing felt labored, my HR would show back up.
Anyhoo-hours 4 and 5 were very challenging. My neck and back pain were pretty bad. I never had that type of pain before the accident.
I slowed down the last hour...
My nutrition shouldn't have been an issue. I ate what I normally eat on the clock. I feel that I drank enough. Not sure why I swelled.
Hopped off the bike. I could barely turn my head. I texted my coach and told him to shoot me. I put on my running shoes and ran 5 miles averaging 11mm.
My neck and back started to relax on the run. My legs felt ok...back and neck at this point felt tired.
The weird thing for me was my breathing couldn't keep up with my running cadence. My first mile was sub 10...after the turn-around I did a run/walk pattern so I could catch my breath. That helped. Like I said...that was odd...wonder if I lost cardio endurance. My shorter stuff this week wasn't problematic w/breathing. Also-all my kids at school have been getting sick, so who knows.
I took 2 tylonol PMs last night, slept like a rock. I feel good-ish now. Legs great. Back sore. neck ok. I have to run this morning still...that should be ok.
Fun thing for today is this....
I'm going to pick up some race wheels! My friend Keith is lending me his zipp 404 for the front and 808 for the back.
He offered me a disk wheel, but with AZ the wind is an issue. I would love to race a disk (they make the best sound eva) but I'm not going to risk being blown over! Keith must have a lot of $ to have all these toys!
