Hi, I'm new here.  Had RNY on 12/17/07 and have lost 77 lbs at my three-month checkup. I started a swim program in late February.  I started out only being able to do about 400 yards and now am up to 1,000 (40 laps) 3 - 5 times a week.  It's not all swimming, I'll do some walking back and forth and some kick board time but at least I'm moving this body!  I hope to up this distance to 1,200 this week. My knees are SHOT.  Like the doctor told me, I can do any excercise as long as my feel don't touch the ground nor push or pull anything.  That leaves swimming!  The plan is for knee replacement when I'm down to about 200 lbs. or so. Just wondering if there were other swimmers on the board. Take Care Jana

Yeah.  Swim / Bike / Run triathlete here.   :)

Swimming is a great exercise.   Much easier on the joints that running and even biking.

Good for you Jana.  I hope to take swimming lessons this summer. Kim
Without struggle, there is no progress.

I absolutely love swimming. Great for my bad back and weak ankles. Wearing a bathing suit -- that's another story. But I'll get there!

2019: 11 years out and maintaining a loss of 150lbs.
