Hi all,
I'm 5.5 months out and lost 62 lbs. I'm stuck and a bit frustrated. I recently read an article that said that exercising doesn't really influence weight loss... so says the study.

I've been exercising every day (but Tuesday, when Gym is closed) and indeed it hasn't helped my weight loss much, but i do feel better.

Any advice you can give someone regarding exercise to improve weight loss.

At the moment, I do 30 minutes of cardio (elyptical trainer mostly) and 20 minutes of weights, mostly stomach and upper body.

Thanks for lessons from the wise.

I am not sure about the study that you read but it sounds a little fishy.  I know that the more I exercise, the more I want to eat.  It definitely increases my appetite.  That could be the reason for not losing.  I would stick with the exercise and watch the intake.  All the surgeries in the world can solve the simple equation: Burn more calories than you take in = Lose weight. Take in more calories than you burn = Gain weight. Stick with the exercise and your stall will be over soon.

Can you recommend a good exercise regimen for weight loss? Yes, I'm hungrier (and thirstier) when i exercise.

Well, I'm no expert but a mix of cardio and weight training seems like a good idea.  Muscle burns calories so the more you have the more calories you burn as you rest.  Cardio is great for overall fitness.  It makes your blood flow better and strengthens your heart.  I have also found that it has increased the muscle mass in my legs.

Rani, When you are lifting weights, are you doing it for conditioning with lighter weights or using heavy weights?  I just recently changed to the lighter weights and my stall went away after 4 weeks. Good luck. Jackie

Are you sure it's due to the lighter weights? What an interesting concept.

What is your weight lifting regimen?
