Compression garments

OK, I know this is a topic often visited here on the boards and a common answer is to refer folks to Under Armour and the like.......BUT......

I need a really good compression garment and I'm willing to pay out the cash. I intend to start some hard core running training and will need something that will keep things in place while running. I'm currently leaning towards a one-piece type of thing.

Any experienced suggestions from you running types would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Danny

You don't have to drop a ton of bucks,.WalMart has the Athletic Connection underarmor knock-off brand and it works just fine for me at a fraction of the cost. I use the long sleeve compression shirts in the winter and maybe a another shirt or hoodie overto pdepending on how cold it is. I use the thigh length compression shorts.  My trick is to pull the up in the fron, down a bit in the back, and give the legs a twist in, toward the groin  so it keeps them from bunching into your butt crack when jogging.  Sorry ladies,...but it works. It also works better for me to tuck the compression shirt into the compression shorts so it does roll up so far during the road work.  I wear nylon running shorts or the nylon-polyester-cotten blend sweat pants that dont have elastic in the ankles or zippers (basketball warmups are too heavy duty for me).  I also have a nylon velcro v-fold ID wallet pouch with a clip I hooj inside my pocket or waistband if I don't have pockets,...incase I get hit by a truck or the heart explodes during a run. I always take my Id, insurncae card ,...and at the advice of Scott, a couple of bucks for food or a ride home if I get out too far and don't fell like I can get back.  I've never had that experience but it sounds like good advice to be prepared all the same. Have a great Christmas and good luck with your shopping.

I love the Under Armour garments but costs can get prohibitive.   I've also found that the Nike shops have great running gear.   I try and get to one of their factory outlets.  Make sure you get the wick stuff which keeps the sweat away from your body.  This time of the year I highly recommend a hat. Good luck and welcome to running! Rob

You could try something like this.  I wore one when I wrestled.  It worked out well.  They also have them track specific but I couldn't find one. http://www.singlets.com/ I usually just go with some compression underware and let my stomach flop around.

Under Armour and the store brand knock-offs are the easiest compression items to find.  I don't really care for the items from Under Armour and the store brands as they are made from a Poly/Spandex blend. Like a previous poster mentioned, http://www.singlets.com has some good one-piece wrestling singlets made out of Nylon/Lycra (Spandex) that are very well made.  I have two from that site that I wear under a t-shirt while exercising and they keep everything in place.  Compared to Under Armour, Nylon/Lycra Spandex is a much smoother, silkier material (less chaffing) that breathes well and drys very quickly.  For those of us with big legs, thigh rub (chaffing) is a problem and the smooth silky spandex makes walking much more comfortable and I can walk much longer too.  Do yourself a favor and stay away from cotton blended Lycra/Spandex.  Not only does it wear out quickly, but once you sweat in it, it takes a long time to dry and it no longer breathes. A few other places you can find really good Nylon/Lycra Spandex compression clothing is from http://www.gk-elitesportswear.com (click the link for Tousse Running Apparel) in sizes up to 4XL, and you can find Bal-Togs (which is considered dancewear, but don't let that scare you) from http://www.riversedgedancewear.com and http://www.nydancewear.com.  Bal-Togs has standard and plus-sizes available for men and women.  All good stuff, but lately I am only buying from GK-Elite Sportswear (Tousse) as their stuff is very comfortable and very well made.  Well worth the money and wait time.  If anyone needs more specific info, please don't hesitate to contact me. -Bill
