Resistance Training

I am just curious how much resistance or weight training I need.  I go to 1 hour spinning classes five times a week.  I just added a core class using some weights and plan to go to a couple of weight classes a week.  How much resistance training do I need?  I want to build some more muscle and increase my metabolism, but I don't really want to be at the gym all waking hours when not at work.  I love the spinning classes and want to keep those up.  How much is recommended in addition to that?

Hi Lynne I think what you're already doing and planning on doing looks fine.  You build muscle while you rest, not while you workout. So work hard while you're there, then get some rest. For general fitness, 2 or 3 weight workouts a week are fine. I do 3 heavy workouts every 6 days with a bunch of little workouts like walking, stretching or abs in between for recovery. You're doing great. Earl
