The slower you run in the first, the more impressive your next time will be.  If I were you, I'd try to be very tired at the end but not exhausted.  That will let you know that you worked hard and you will have a starting bench mark on which to build. From a tactical point of view, don't get swept up in the start.  You will have urge to sprint out with everyone else.  That will last a mile or so until you crash.  Stay at a pace that you know you can handle to run a pretty consistant race.  If you are going to run in the 18 minute range then line up on the front row.  If you are going to be somewhere in the 30-40+ range line up near the back.  Lastly, wear one layer less than you think you need.  You will heat up. Good luck
Scott

Hi Becky! I totally agree with Scott ... start out slow so that you can ease into your pace and get a good rhythm for your breathing.  Also, put some chapstick on cuz your lips will get chapped really bad!  I always carry a washcloth with me because when I run, my nose runs like crazy.  And it's worse when it's cold out.  Anyway, it's nice to have something to keep dabbing at it!  I don't know if this is an issue for you or not!

Let us know how you do!

Deanna  :)
