Exercise question

Hello. This is my first time posting on this forum. I am almost 12 weeks out and had foot surgery on Friday. I was told that I could still do strength training on my upper body. I was always under the impression that I needed to do some kind of cardio warm-up prior to strength training. Is this correct? Thanks, Sharee

Hi Sharee,

It’s not really “necessary” to do a cardio warm-up before doing weight training. It’s not a bad idea. It does raise your body temperature and gets the blood flowing. I like to take a quick 5 or 10 minute walk on the treadmill or ride the recumbent bike, if I’m a gym setting, but if I’m at home, I just do some abs and stretching and go at it.

I’m old, so I probably spend more time warming up than most people spend doing their entire workout.

So basically, if my foot was the issue, I’d probably do 1 or 2 extra warm-up sets for whatever exercise I was doing just to get the blood flowing and stretch between sets to keep the blood in the muscle.

Good luck.

Earl
