New Bike

I would like to buy a new bike, currently I have a Diamondback Mtn bike, but to ride on the road is alittle painful at times. I'd like to get something like a Mtn bike, but with a smoother ride. I am also in a pinch with $$$ so, anything practical but not outside of my range...let's say $400 or under would be great. I am just beginning to ride again and want something to absorb the shock of the road. I am not about to ride any marathons or do any triathlons...just want something simple but fun! Please let me know the bike and the price if possible. Thanks!!! Kelli

Hi Kelli; You should probably consider getting something in the comfort/hybrid range. Here are a couple links just to give you an idea of the style to look for - Trek 7000 Trek Lime Lite Trek Pure Townie Basically, you want something that is going to let you sit in a more upright position while having the smoother handling and more road-esque tires of a road bike. Good steals can be found on craigslist and ebay. Another (cheaper) option would be to buy new rims and some "slicks" for your mountain bike. Good luck and enjoy your bike! - Kelly

Thanks Kelly!!! I really like the Trek 7000 and it's right up my price range. I'll check out a local dealer this weekend to see if he has the bike in stock. I might also go the other option and just get the new rims and slicks...I do like my bike and it's basically brand new because I had gained so much weight that I couldn't ride it so it sat in the garage for like 5yrs. Anywho, thanks again I'll look into both options.  Kelli

You're welcome, I'm glad I was able to help out. As a self-professed bike ***** I'd go for the new bike, but you might want to give serious thought to just re-fitting your current bike with new rims and tires. Cycling gets expensive quick and if you can get a little more use out of your MTB my vote is to go that way. Good luck with whatever choice you make. - Kelly
