disc problem, can't walk now
I was walking up to 2.5 miles 4-5 days a week, sometimes less, but I was out doing it and enjoying it for the most part. Then I put out my back a few months back and eventually led to pain up and down my legs. First they thought it was peripheral arterial disease (narrowing of the arteries in my legs). So i stopped walking pretty much. I was doing water aerobics, but got burned out on that. Come to find out it is probably a disc problem with my back and radiation down my legs, maybe sciatica. Any ways, I have not been able to walk. Note: even when I was walking 2.0 to 2.5 miles 4-5 days a week, the weight was not coming off. So now I go up a few pounds, down a few pounds, but just cannot get motivated to do much due to pain. I am in the process of looking into a revision to the DS as opposed to lapband as my surgeon suggested. I am going through a depression now cuz i can't walk and I have gained weight and feel like all has failed.

Sorry to hear about your setbacks. I had back issues before my surgery. Degenerative disk and joint disease in the lower back. Caused my legs, hips, and back to hurt. Occasionaly my back would go out and I'd be bed bound for a few days. I am 3 months out of my RNY in which I haven't been able to have ANY of my anti-inflammatory pain medications. But thankfully for me my weight loss has really eased up the burden on my back and I've been able to start walking around my neighborhood and I am doing well. I have to be very careful though...if I get to ****y about feeling great and over exert my back...ouch I am down and out for awhile. What I would say is to talk to your back doctor. Is there any pain medications that could help you walk more? Is there any physical therapy that could help? Could surgery effectively cure the pain that's radiating down? As far as a revision to DS that's between you and your surgeon. If RNY didn't help I don't see how a lap band could help the situation. I wish you good luck.
Thank you for responding. I am taking Mobic for osteoarthritis in the hips and knees mostly. Pretty much that pain has gone, it is just my back and pain down my legs. I am also on Protonix to help ease any potential problems with ulcers in my pouch. I did have less pain after my RNY, but I guess with the weight gain, my back problem has resurfaced. I am waiting to have a MRI of my back to see what's what.
