I never thought I would say that but the gym has become a part of my routine and ME!  I have surgery 4/26/07   and I already miss the workouts.  How long until I am able to go back to the gym?  I know everyone is different but what was your case?   I am so very excited that I have surgery in 30 DAYS!!!  I really don't want to get out of the routine.  i don't want to get lazy... Any suggestions?? My goal is to run for breast cancer, the animals, or the sick kids...  Does anyone have info on that?  i guess it might be too soon.. i am just excited! thanks for your time!

I went to the gym the day after I got out of the hospital, which was 2 days after surgery.  All I did was walk on a treadmill, but I didn't want to lose my routine of GOING... like, getting in the car and going to the gym at the right time. My surgeon said this was perfectly fine.  He wants you to walk anyway, right away.  I did my first laps in the halls of the hospital the afternoon of my morning surgery. Everyone is different, but I didn't feel a lot of pain and my recovery went very well (except for sleeping in the recliner in the living room for 4 weeks)

I should also say I walked sloooooooooow.  I started off at 1.5 on the treadmill which is slightly faster than a snail.   I'd only walk 15 mins in the beginning, too.  I worked back up to normal, and now at 8 weeks out I'm back to lifting.  I just wanted to go to keep the gym in my life.

I ended up having Dr. Ali, because my final date got moved to the week that Dr. Ali was performing.  But, it is still the same office.  I haven't figured out how to fix the surgeon thing... I can't remember where in my info I entered that. Anyway, you're pre op is going to be a 2 hour meeting with Judy in the basement classroom with two or three other patients.  Then you will have to pee in a cup, so don't go before hand.  Then you'll meet with Abby Weston, who will be your after care provider for the next five years.  She's the Family Nurse Practitioner that stands in for the surgeons for all the long term post op stuff.  After her meeting, you have to get labs done, either next door, or in the ellison building.  Either way, you'll have to go over to the ellison building and meet with the anesthesiologist nurse, who will ask you how high a risk you are for anestesia.  After that, you're done.  My pre-surgery appointments started at nine or ten in the morning and went til 3:30 or 4. The thing about going to the gym directly after is that you can't drive for a loong time.  I went when my husband went.  If you don't go to the gym with someone driving you, you're better off just walking around your neighborhood.

Yeah, right after I posted this, I fixed it.  It was laziness.  I admit it.  Thanks, though. :)
