Is 30 min. of cardio enough?
First, thanks for the help. I was just talking to my DH before he left for work about our routine at the gym.
Before surgery, we'd both spend at least 45 minutes on the cardio machines, and less time with weights. Now, that I only have about 36 more pounds to lose, I would like to spend more of my time toning. Lately, out of boredom I've only been completing 30 minutes cardio (not fat burning ) and at least 20-30 min. of different toning exercises.
My question is: Is the 30 min. enough? I've been told that the toning is cardio as well, high reps-low weight. I can definatly feel my heart going, especially when I work my lower body.
Thanks for the help!
If you are doing it 4x plus weekly, i say yes.
3x weekly at that rate is more like maintenance.
The real proof is in the pudding - if you don't drop more weight, even slowly, you know this is one area you can try stepping up by either adding daily time or times per week!
My body is pretty stubborn about letting weight go in general, so even at my current level of 5 - 6x times weekly for at least an hour daily does not guarantee me weight loss. For me, it's about my food intake. Exercise is about toning, strength, etc.
Thank you for replying. I apologize for not responding sooner. I wrote that before work yesterday and then I couldn't get online last night for whatever reason.
I have a doctor's appt. today as well for my 6 month check up. I'll be sure to double check with them, but what your telling me sounds about right. I have been going less frequently lately due to stressors at work, but I would probably feel better and less stressed if I went to the gym more frequently.
Thanks so much for the help!
I just got done with the BFL life program.. it calls for strength training every other day and 20 minutes of intense cardio every other day.. before BFL I was working out an hour at a time about 4-5 times a week and was starting to plateau. BFL jump started my weight loss again.. and my body has completely metamorphised.. I actually have a waist now!! I didn't beleive that less cardio would work.. but I decided to trust the process.. and low and behold it works. It's pretty intense.. but it's also 20 minutes and done which fits with my lifestyle and my mind a lot more now.. and because it's only 20 minutes its something I can always achieve.
Let me know if you have any other questions or want to see my before and after pics
