Hi Karen, Welcome to the board. The safe answer is listen to your doctor and ask him on Tuesday. Mine told me 4 to 6 weeks before any heavy training and he knew I was a weight lifter before surgery and had experience on how to workout injured (which is basically what surgery is).  I was doing some light band and dumbbell work days out of the hospital. Just very light, very short arm and shoulder stuff. Nothing I had to strain with, pick up, bend over or lay down. No ab work, no leg work other than walking and a few calf raises. Mostly walking and after 2 weeks pool exercises and stretching in the pool. You're still healing on the inside even after the outside looks all healed up.  It was a good 6 to 8 weeks before I was starting to train basic exercises like bench press or squats even then super light. (I went from doing 900 pound quarter squats before surgery to only being able to squat an empty 45 pound bar 2 months after surgery.) Basically, just start slow and work your way up. If it hurts...don't do it. Good luck,  Earl

Definately consult with your doctor but for me it was 6 weeks and back to my regular exercise program. It was a long 6 weeks since I love to exercise and it really helps with the weight lost and toning. Congratulations on your band and good luck w/the exercise.
