I think I got alot from reading Dr. Betcher's article, "Walking A A Primary Form Of Excercise", but here's my question.  I work 2nd shift, from 3 to 11. If I went to bed at midnight and woke up at 6am and walked my 2 miles and came home and took a 2 hour nap, would the 2 hour nap turn off the little mitocrondria that are zaping the muscles for that day?  After my 2 mile walk, can I not go to sleep at all for that day's walk to continue to be effective? Thanks for any answers.               Dee

Could you nap from 1230- 230 instead or sleep later in the morning? Ususally after I have a big walk its impossible to sleep because I am energized? Or maybe it is better to get you walk in before you go to work?  Just some suggestions.  Good luck.

Is your name "Yogarn"? I've never heard that name before.  Thanks for your response.  I realized I also have the battle against firomyalgia that I fight when I undertake any excercise.  Where I work we have a really nice gym on the 1st floor always with 2-4 young excercise professionals...so I took the article downstairs & gave it to Chris.  He'll take my question to their morning meeting tomorrow.  It's really not so much a matter of when I take the nap...but how long a nap could I take without stopping the little mitochrondia from working on those enzemes....that do the fat burning thing.  I'll post their answer when I get it.  ...Yogarn, your profile doesn't say anything about you...what's your story???

Actually my name is Shauna but I'm a nurse and I like to do Yoga that's why my screen name is yogarn. I had surgery August 24 of this year and I feel awesome. I have 3 smal kids so I don't have alot of time to work on a profile. I had surgery at Henry Ford Hosp in Detroit and I live in Canada. I hope you get your answers from the pepole you work with, i'm interested to know as well. Shauna

Thanks, Shauna.  You figured out how to put that cute picture up somehow....I'm not there yet.   All my stuff was faxed to my insurance company on Friday and we're figuring 4-6 weeks.  Very exciting!!!  I'm glad you feel awesome.  Talk w/you again soon.  Dee

Dee, Good question and NO, sleeping is not going to "turn off" the mitochondria. Something else to consider is weight or resistance training. Weight training can raise your metabolism for 24 to 48 hours after exercise. -Jeremy Gentles, CSCS
