What about any help/suggestions for bat wings??
I hear ya! That area is the hardest to work on/tone up (even if you haven't had surgery)! Just so you know, I had the gastric bypass rny in June '05 and have been a certified aerobics instructor for 5 years. The best kind of exercises are ones that focus on your triceps. An easy exercise for that is as follows: take a waterbottle and, with both your hands, hold the bottle as high as you can above your head... keeping your elbows as straight as you can. Then, keeping your arms as close to your head as possible, slowly bend your elbows so the waterbottle is now being lowered towards your back. When you have your elbows bent as far as they will bend, hold for a count of 2. Then slowly straighten those arms up. Hold for a count of 2. Repeat. Try to do a set of 8 to start with. Do not excede 3 sets. Now, I'll be honest with you, age, how much weight we've had and the elasticity of our skin plays a LOT into what the results will be. I have HUGE upper arms, but since they are more toned they don't look as bad as they could. And someday I want to have surgery to get rid of the excess skin myself! Good luck! You're not alone!
Some other good exercises are:
Go to the pantry and get some 1 pound cans or some 1 or 2 pound weights.
1. Get on your hands and knees. Pick lucky arm #1 and get your can. Keep the arm area between your shoulder and elbow aligned and close to your body, don’t let it move. Raise the can up to your chest and then extend it out to your rear slowly. Do several sets/reps with each arm, increasing as you are able.
2. Lay on your back. Pick up the cans, palms up, arms extended straight out from your sides. Lift the cans slowly straight up over your chest and rotate your hands as you lift so that your knuckles touch each other at the top. Slowly lower, but don’t let your arms touch the floor. Keep the muscles on the entire time. Do several sets/reps increasing as you are able.
3. Lay on your back with the cans in your hands, palms up, about 1- 2 inches above the floor. Do like a snow angle motion, slowly moving your arms from your hips to above your head.
4. Lay on your back with the cans. Lift your arms straight up, palms facing towards your feet. Keeping the arm area from your shoulder to your elbow straight up and not moving, lower the cans towards your forehead, like you’re putting on a pair of glasses. Try to keep your elbows close to each other like you are holding a ball between them, don’t let them flair out.
Hope these help.
