Getting back on the horse

Hey all you fitness gurus and junkies, I need a little nudge this morning. I have been away from the gym for about 2.5 weeks. I was doing some business and personal travel and have fallen off the exercise wagon. I am 10 lbs away from my goal of weighing 135 lbs. I am very proud of what I have accomplished and, up to now, have been going to the gym 5 days a week. I don't know what happened. All I know is that I have to go back. I like to run, but lately, the treadmill seems so boring that I just can't hardly stand to face it. But I like the convenience of one stop shopping at my local Y for cardio and then strength training. I usually have a personal trainer but had cancelled my appointments til my travel settled down. Thanks for listening this morning! Susan

Hi Susan, You have done great. Now get back to the gym. Just kidding sometimes our bodies need a little break or a change. Have you thought of try8ing the elliptical or a spinning class for your cardio. It might help with the boredom issue.  Julie

Julie,  You are probably right about the boredome thing, that I need to switch it up a bit. I didn't go this morning (I had a rough sleeping night) but will take my daughter over after school. Yuck. I really just wish I was one of those people who liked it more. Susan

Susan,

I understand about falling off the horse, but get your fanny back on it. I know it can be boring so mix it up. Take it outside. Get an MP3 player, download your favorite tunes and pretend you are a rock star! (oops...that's what I DO!)  You body does need a break sometimes. Now, get back in that saddle, girl.

You are in a beautiful area so you can go outside and walk/run or do yard work. That counts too! Sometimes, when I feel like I just can't face the gym, I just go anyway. Sometimes it turns into a great workout, and one other time, I just sat there...but I went. Life is hectic at times but consider the trainer again - until you get your inspiration back!  Good luck! Dianne and Jenn, Thanks so much for your encouragement! I am back to the gym and will restart with my trainer next week. I am now at my lowest weight ever and I am feeling pretty fantastic about it. I came home from vacation and have really concentrated hard on my efforts to eat well. The exercise is certainly giving me a kick-start. I have lost about 4 lbs this week. Dianne, you are absolutely right. NE Florida is gorgeous. On Sundays my husband and I ride our bikes on a converted railroad trail. We ride about 30 miles and we love it. I think I am going to move one of my gym days to an outdoor running day (maybe tomorrow!) Thanks again, Susan

Susan.. Same thing happened to me...I now play tennis, walk at the park and when I go to the gym..I work out on 3 machines..usually treadmill...elliptical and then the recumbent bike...it works for me.  I don't get bored and it keeps me challenged.  I took a pilates class too..I haven't been back, even though I really liked it..I want to try more classes and do the group exercise thing.   I also put my rollerblades back on this past week....exciting to be able to do this again.   Jenn
