Surgery Sept. 20th - Exercise?
Friday, Sept. 1st I was told that my surgery date would be Sept. 20th. Am I insane to begin an exercise program now? Should I wait until after the surgery? I'm going to the gym today and plan to walk on the treadmill at least a half hour and have the trainers show me some begining strength training.
I had the thought that my LAP RNY would be less traumatic/painful if I began to exercise my stomach muscles prior to surgery. Any opinions?

Hi Gladys,
Good luck with your surgery.
Just my opinion...
I think it can only help going into any major surgery...and RNY is major surgery...to be in the best health and condition possible. It just makes recovery faster and easier.
From what I've read, losing a little fat before surgery also helps the surgeon. It creates a little maneuvering room around your organs. Anything to help the doctors out.
Good luck. Let us know how you're doing.
Earl
Gladys,
Earl is right on.....get in that gym and start exercising. Find out what you enjoy doing, strengthen those abs a bit, get on the treadmill and just be as activce as you can at this point.
After your surgery I am sure you will be pleased with your ability to exercise as you lose weight and activities become easier and easier for you to perform.
Definately get moving now...no need to wait!
