I know a few. All had initial success, but two of them have gained a lot of their weight back. They didn't stick with the diet and exercise, so there you go. I haven't been to the support group yet, but I'm planning on it. Do they really help?

Yes. I am using Dr. Saint Laurent. I attended a seminar in April and have seen my dietitian twice. I have my psych eval scheduled in June. I really look forward to getting this done!
My oldest daughter and her husband are expecting our first grandchild any day now. We are beyond excited. I always I wanted to be the one to teach my grandkids to swim. I figured I should be nice and healthy when my grand-baby is at an age to swim. I also want to be around for a long time for all of my children (3) and all my future grandkids!
My youngest just finished her first year of college, so it appears we have one child around the same age.
I am a little nervous, but I have faith in my surgeon. He is one of Houston's most experienced weight-loss surgeons, and has performed more than 2,400 advanced laparoscopic and bariatric procedures.
I know 2 people that have had WLS. One had Gastric bypass and the other has a Lap Band. Both have been successful. I also have met my surgeon's post op patients at the support group meetings. Most of them have the sleeve and I'm impressed with how successful they have all been.
How about you? Do you know anyone who has had WLS?

Lucky you, only having to do the three month program! Good luck. Have you picked a surgeon yet? I'm using Dr. Nancy Marquez here in Round Rock. I wish I had access to Houston where I could go through the Davis' program, but it's just too far for follow up care. So, are you scared witless yet? I'm getting there. I have an almost 18 year old daughter and I want to see my grandkids some day. At the rate I'm going I'll be lucky to see my daughter graduate college if I don't do something now. You're wise being proactive. I would have done this years ago if I had had insurance help, which we just got back in February.
So, do you know anyone who has had WLS?

Hi dollybigmomma,
I am in the first month of my three month weight management process with Aetna. I will be getting the "sleeve" in July or August. I'd love to correspond with you. I am in a suburb of Houston, TX.
I weight 354 and have no other health risks, but I'm trying to be proactive and get this surgery before they start!

I had my RNY at St. Vincents in Carmel. So did my daughter 6 months before me. And her husband is having on June 10 (a couple weeks). Lutheran wasn't a Center of Excellence at that time, and I wasn't comfortable having it done at Lutheran. My daughter did it first, and her insurance wouldn't cover Lutheran .... so I saw how great St. V was, so used her same doctor. Wasn't real convenient all the trips to Indy, but well worth it.
I do try to do some type of exercise 5 days a week....I go to exercise class twice a week, and either walk or go to gym the other days. But the fact is I'm just eating too much. More snacking, and all totally mental...feel I'm getting back in my old habits.
Do you go to the support group meetings? We go to our monthly meetings, and I think that helps. I did the OptiFast at Lutheran about 5 years ago, and gained most of what I lost back. So I knew I needed to do something more permanent, and I had done every diet program there is and always gained it back.
hope you have a good week......warm dry weather hopefully in our forecast.
Deb

Hi Deb,
so glad you wrote! yes I had my 2 year check (end of April) and the Doc wasn't happy with me, I felt chastised for gaining, I think alot of mine is stress related but, I know this is a tool that God gave me and I need to be good to it. I so agree with the "had" to eat less. I still get sick if I eat too much or dairy products don't agree with me but everything else goes down pretty well. I still would like to lose around 30 pounds at least 20 for sure. where did you have surgery at? I see your from Fort Wayne? did you go to Lutheran? I just don't want to go back to stress eating , I'm really afraid I'm heading there. I need to get busy with exercise also. hope you have a great night.

Hi - I've gained a few pounds back myself, and just can't get back on track. Would be glad to talk with you. Think it was easier when I "had" to eat less........not much makes me sick anymore. Dreading my 18 month check in a couple weeks. Weight about the same as I did at my 12 month check. Would still like to lose 20 more lbs though.
