Topic: " Meeting My Nutrionest"
Hi, I am going to meet my diet doc. tomorrow and hoping they are going to give me something as far as , well something to hold on to. My life is so boring and need something to do everyday. So will they  suggest a gym for me or physical therapy? I wish I can go everyday for something to do....OK I feel if I could  eat right and do the gym or PT, maybe I can loose some weight and not have to go throw surgery.  So to me it is a Win-Win situation, I just want a better life for myself. Like when I go out , there is always someone looking at me and I can play it off and not pay attention, but I know and feel them. Most of my friends just stop calling and coming by...so what does that tell you?Sorry I am not here to vent, but this is part of my changing life. I know when I lose the weight, oh boy all the attention will be welcomed from new people who has supported me and good to be around because of Me not my weight. So if there is anyone who can give me an up &up on what to expect...I am here...Thank for your input.....Elite52

Did you do a pre-surgery diet for 3 or 6 months?  I just started a 6-month medically supervised diet before I can schedule my surgery.  I am hoping to do the lap band or maybe the Roux-en-Y bypass.  I also eat a lot in the evening when watching TV.  I'm excited your surgery is so soon.  You can do this and come out smiling!  Good luck.  I hope to hear more from you, Jill.

You sound very similar to my situation.  I am 56 years old and must do a 6-month medically supervised weight loss before my insurance will cover the surgery.  I started the diet on Tuesday.  I also am an emotional eater.  I have been on so many diets, lose some weight or a lot, and then ultimately gain it all back.  If I don't succeed this time, I feel like I'm looking at an early death.  I already had sleep apnea, hypertension, and depression.

I have a wonderful family and don't want to leave them!  Two of my grandsons are only 10 and 18 months old.  I know it's hard.  Maybe we can support each other.  I also have read all the books, went to a therapist that was NO help at all.  I think I just need to get my head straight somehow.  I am also afraid if I get the surgery/lap band, I might "relapse" and gain the weight back.  I feel like this time WILL be different because I will not give up!

Topic: RE: Would like PenPal who is 5 weeks Post Op
Hey Boo, you don't mind if I call you just Boo, do you?
I am 7 weeks post-op.  I had RNY on August 18 in San Antonio, Texas with Dr. Nalish Patel.(however I live in Kyle, that's near Austin).  I have been wanting to find a penpal, too!

A little about me:  I am nearing the mid-century mark, a mother of 3 band kids from 23yrs tio 15 yrs, 1 dog and 1 cat, divorced, returning to school for the first time since 1981, and love, love, love watching Project Runway, Law and Order: SVU, The Closer, Dancing with the Stars, and Top Chef.  Since starting my WLS journey, I have lost close to 70 lbs, but that is with the pre-op weight loss.  Since the surgery, I have had some set backs like swelling, developing a whats it called...a stricture??  You know, can't keep solids down because the scar tissue has healed to tight.  Well if you don't, that's alright.  I hope it doesn't happen to you.  I am down to 269 lbs and don't fit into most of my clothes.  Man that feels good to say that!!

Well, now that I have show you that I like to talk I will stop for now.  Let me know about you.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Jo

My name is Beth and I am 32 years old.  I had my gastric bypass on 7/20/2010 and have lost 67 lbs so far.  I am extremely excited with the results I've gotten so far.  My biggest challenge was not knowing when to stop eating and trying to force in what I thought my serving should be.  So I did up-chuck quite a bit.  The surgery itself was a breeze.  I had never had surgery before so I was very very nervous.  I checked in at 10 am that morning had the surgery at 11am and then was released from the hospital the next day at noon.  The pain was very manageable and was especially more comfortable at home.  I took 2 weeks off from work and needed ever bit of that time.  Mostly because bending was difficult and I was so tired.  Advice:  pick up some binding undergarments.  Spandex tanks work great.  To me it felt better to have something to hold things together.  I still wear them to look smoother.  I've gone from a 26 to a small 18 or large 16, kind of in between sizes.

Hi Steph!

My name is Jill and I'm responding to your posting.  My surgery is scheduled for Oct 13/10 and will be done at St. Michael's Hospital.

I'd love to have a pal (pen or otherwise) who knows what I'm going through and can help/support during challenging times and issues.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Jill

Hi there!

I'm a new member and was checking out the site, when I came across the Penpal option and your post.  I'm not sure where you are located (or any of your other details), but I'm a 48 year old single woman from Toronto Canada.

I've done alot of research on both gastric banding and bypass surgeries.  I'm scheduled for the gastric bypass surgery on October 13th.

As you, I've been dealing with years of emotional eating.  The only issue which still plagues me is eating when I'm feeling lonely/bored (that's a tough one).  My critical time is in the evenings, when I'm parked on the sofa watching tv -- while at work (also at a computer), I can usually manage to avoid eating because of boredom.

I'm not sure how often you'd want to check in, but I'm open to being a penpal and, if you want, an experienced voice on weight loss surgery.

Please reply to this post and we can decide whether to proceed, and how.  Hope to hear from you soon.

Jill
