Topic: RE: PreOp RNY, Hope for Surgery in 2010, pen pal wanted
Hi, I also am 53 however I am opting for the RNY.  My daughter is going to have the VSG we have met our surgeon and have our Psch appt 11/12 then just need to consult our case manager for a surgery date.  We are hopping for a mid-Dec surgery.  Our surgeon told us we could possibly have our surgeries the same day.

Our surgeon does not put in drains or ports for either procedure.  We had to lose 20  pounds and used Kaisers pre-op diet and are already at our surgery weight.

Keep me posted on your journey and I will do the same.  Good luck to you!

Shannon,

My daughter and I both have Dr Baggs.  We went to orientation on the 10 of Sept had our appt with Dr Baggs on Sept 27.  We had been following the pre-op diet faithfully, and both of us had lost 16 pounds since orientation.  Dr Baggs wants us to lose 4 more pounds (Yahoo, we can do this).  We have our Psch appt in Richmond on Nov 12.  We are both already at our surgery goal weight.  Dr Baggs is wonderful, my daughter and I are hopping to have our surgery on the same day and he says that is definately doable.  We are hopping to have a mid-Dec surgery date.

My daughter is going to have the sleeve which I agree for her that is a good choice for her.  I am going to have the RNY since I want  the dumping syndrome as a reminder to get me honest.  I am 53 and don't have many do-overs with my back and neck issues.

Let me know where you are on your journey.

Sherrie

Topic: RE: "Want to start Early on my nutrition Diet (pre-op) HELP!
I have not met my nutritionist yet.  I started 6 month pre-surgery diet in Oct.  I was told to eat high protein, low carbs (no potatoes, pasta), veggies and fruits like apples, oranges, strawberries, blue berries, (not melons, bananas or grapes--too high in sugar).   I eat 2 slices of protein bread a day with low-fat Jif peanut butter(on the diet), protein shakes or bars (Zone, South Beach, Pure Protein recommended because low carb), lean meats and veggies for dinner.  STring cheese or handful of nuts for snacks.  Eat every 3 hours (don't worry about calories for now) and eat protein bar, smoothie or nuts/cheese for snacks.    The protein really does make you feel full.  ALso, don't eat after 6:30 p.m.

I also just started my 6-month pre-surgery diet on Oct. 5th.  I have the testing and evaluations to do. I'm going to Dr. Z at Summa.   I'm 100 lbs. overweight and probably wont have surgery until May or June 2011.  I also live in Akron.  I'm 56 years old and a grandmother, but want to live a long and healthy life.
