Topic: RE: Girl from Cali needs a pen pal
I'm mentally ready for the surgery.  This sounds crazy but my husband can't take off work for longer than a day, so I'm renting a car at our airport in Bakersfield, driving to the SD airport, dropping off the car, taking a taxi to the hotel that's near the hospital (practically a stones throw away) My husband will come down and pick me up when I'm ready.  I'm assuming that I can go home after 3 or 4 days, but others are saying I have to stay in San Diego for a week.  Do you know?  Will I have a drainage tube in me?  It's hard to get someone on the phone at the doctors office, they kind of discourage calls.  They get too many of them I guess.  Right now I'm 236#, how fast will I lose that weight, like on average?  I plan on attending the support groups too.

As far as driving home, I purchased this step thing for people who tend to get blood clotting and you use it in the car or airplane to eliminate blood clots, do you think I still need to get out and walk around every hour or so?

Topic: Looking for a weight loss friend in Portland, OR
I find that it's easier to tackle this with a few friends in your corner, whether it's walking buddies or someone there to relate to the difficulties.  I moved to Portland two years ago, and haven't told anyone here in Portland about my surgery. Myabe it's out of fear of being judged (everyone has their opinion on the best way to lose weight) or maybe just a fear of trust.  I do know that someone who has had the surgery could be a trusting soul.

Hello,
I would love to write to both of you. Hey Giselle....I was born in Duarte. I currently live in Hesperia, CA. I am 43, single, and have no children. I do have 2 dogs. I had the RNY on 10-27-10. My surgeon is Dr. George Zorn. It is difficult to talk to my friends, and even family. I do attend support groups, and that helps. I'm surprised you don't know how your weight loss is. I have to attend follow-up appointments with my surgeon. Do you see your surgeon at all? Let me know if you would like to keep in touch.

Hello,
My name is Gina Ibarra, and I'm 43 years old. I had the RNY on 10-27-10, in San Diego at Scripps Mercy Hospital. My surgeon was Dr. Zorn. I am very impressed by him, and his care. I live in Hesperia, California. I know what you mean about going to San Diego. I really did not want to go that far, but it went well. And yes, you do get up the same day and start walking around. I was discharged on 10-30-10, which I'm hearing they usually want us there at least 3 nights. I did not have any issues with the hospital, and I did have my Mom with me for the duration. I have had the opportunity to meet your surgeon on one of my follow-ups. He was courteous and asked a lot of questions on how I was doing. I would definitely keep some pillows with you in the car, as you will need them to help support yourself. And the trip home takes forever, as you have to stop to walk around frequently.

Just keep up your exercising, and trying the protein shakes. Before you know it, March will be here. How are you feeling about the procedure? Are you ready?

I was very nervous about the procedure; but I eventually had a sense of calm when I made the decision. When I started the Kaiser Program, I was 325#. On the day of surgery, I was 294#, and I felt better just getting that amount of weight off. I am currently at 249#, just shy of losing 50#. I'm having a blast getting rid of clothes. I do go to support group meetings, as they help me. I keep in contact with several of the members between meetings.

If you would like to keep in touch, let me know. If I can assist you and support you in any way, I will.

Good Luck,
Gina

Topic: Looking for a new friend to hang out with in the Greenville, Ohio area
Hi...Hope this doesn't sound silly but I am in search of a friend ( Male or Female) to hang out with in my area...Someone to go to movies, out to lunch together...Someone who wants to try new recipes together...Perhaps exercise, take walks, go shopping together...Or just to hang out and watch a movie while trying new healthy snacks that we create...I am 53 years old, non smoker, have a son age 31 that lives with me, as well as his dog who is people friendly...If you might be interested in making a new friend to hang out with, message me...Tammy

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart...And may that friendship have such a ONENESS that when one weeps the other will taste salt...Friends are like balloons ; once you let them go you can't get them back....So I'm going to tie you to my heart so I never lose you.

Topic: RE: I could use a FRIEND!
Hi Rhonda. I just had my surgery 1/4/11. I was as excited as you are and my family and friends were as worried as yours sound. Everything will go smoothly, just listen to you surgeon. Time flies and soon you will be on the road to recovery and dropping your weight.

I have not spoken to more than a couple people on here, but I am sure you will find the support you need. I know I need to be more active on the boards. My surgeon said that having a support system with people that have had wls is a MUST, but I live 4.5hrs away from the city i had my surgery in (actually had my surgery done in another state). There is not any wls support groups in the small town I live in and the nearest would be 1hr away, so I am hoping that coming here to the boards will help me find what I need.

Good luck to you, you will do great ! I am excited for you. Congrats on having the courage do have wls.

I am so glad to know that you are getting the RNY redone.  I would love to have it done, but not sure how to go about getting it.  I don't get on here  much to get my messages but I would love to become penpals and maybe help each other out.  My email is  [email protected]
Please feel free to email me...........I have another penpal that is having our same problem...maybe we can all get together on here and cheer each other on.

Take care
Hope to hear from you soon

Topic: Looking for some pals.
Hi,

My name is Corey and I'm a 25 year old from Louisiana. I had the Lap-Band procedure 7 months ago and I'm feeling great. I recently felt I'm finally in a place to find and meet new people to hopeful make new friends. I'm use to being alone and was fine with that through high school and college. Now that I am in a better place in my life, I am ready to live it i suppose. If anyone would like to talk or ask questions I am more than willing to share my experiences and lend a helping hand. Wither it be giving advice or just listening.  Good luck to everyone here on the journey and hope its everything you want it to be.
