38yo female 8 days til surgery
Hi I'm a 38 y/o female nurse in oklahoma. I'm having a laproscopic RNY in 8 days and am looking for a pen pal who is either having surgery soon or is early post op. I have a great family support system but nobody understands what we're going thru like someone who's actually been there. Mybe we can be that support and special friend to each other?
Hi Kristi!
My name is Sheila and I am 4 weeks post-op. I had my surgery on March 29th with Dr. Julie Ellner in San Diego, CA. I know it was the best decision I could have made for myself. I am 36, 5'1", and I weighed 283 lbs. I now weigh 260. I have great family support as well, but it is so great to talk to someone who is also on the same journey. I had never had surgery before, no stitches, no broken bones, nothing. So I was not prepared for the pain. Then they gave me Vicodin and I had nightmares, literally! It also gave me major gas pain. I started to feel great right after I stopped taking it. I just took tylenol instead. I did go home with a G-tube because I wasn't taking in enough liquid (64oz per day). It came out a few days later. After that I started to feel fantastic. I started walking this week, something I couldn't do pre surgery due to back pain. As soon as I dropped a few pounds my back pain vanished. That alone made it all worth it. I congratulate you on your decision and remember when you are in the hospital, it will all be worth it!!! Let me know if you have any questions.
