Hi I'm Lisa and I need someone to shoot questions at when a question comes up.I'm 32, have five girls,a perfect husband,am 100lbs with a bmi of 39.9 and am looking into having wls.My first and most important question/concern is this...I made an appt. with a new pcp I've heard he takes a hoilistic(sp)approach to health care. From what I've gathered the first order of business is for me to see a pcp and have him refer me to a surgeon. Is this correct? Our pcp is part of a medical group and I'm afraid if he says" no way jose "then I have no other option as in,thats it, give up it's over, do not pass go..We have an HMO just so ya know. What are the steps I need to follow in this wls journey?By the way I have a sister who had the surgery done alittle over a year ago but her insurance was a medical. My insurance is aetna and so asking her for answers doesn't work.

Hi Lisa, Your first step is your PCP, if he doesn't agree with surgery then find one who does, if this is what you want. I have not heard of many who do not believe in this surgery although there are some. Each surgeon has different "rules" to follow, so check with the surgeon, mine required I attend a informational seminar that she puts on and a support group meeting I also had to have a visit with the psychiatrist before I saw her, at the informational meeting they handed out a check list of things needed to be done before you see the surgeon. this also was sent into the insurance company after the surgeon's visit. I have Sagamore and was approved the first time around, you may also need documented weight loss tries with your PCP before the insurance company approves, you might check with them to see what they require. Any more questions don't be afraid to ask me, you can e-mail directly at [email protected] Brenda 321/225
