desire to share support
Hi! I am 46 year old male who has answered a couple request for pen pals and not recieved anything so I thought i would be really bold and post this request..smile. I am married with 3 children and RNY post op 10 weeks, i am really on track with my daily food intake and going to the gym i started this week. I am pretty open to anyone who is looking for some support or just looking to say Hi. I know this journey will not always be perfect and in the non perfect times it is nice to know you have someone or a little group of people who understands what we are about and how we feel. It be nice if
every person we knew could walk a day in our shoes at 150 lbs overweight then none of us would ever have to be here, but you know that is not happening..so i look forward to a mail from my peers. thanks for reading..............)

Hi Tom
I had surgery on 1/18/05. I think support and encouragement are so very important to the success of wls patients. I'd be glad to write back and share support with you.
I started going to the gym during the 3rd week of February and have been very consistent with it. Most days are good days, but there are also a few where it seems as if I work hard to make a change, but think I won't really SEE the change until more of the fat comes off. I have lost a total of 60 (14 of that was pre-op) and am looking forward to the 100 lb. mark.
I think I'm also rather on-track with my food intake. My dietician wants me to get between 1000-1200 calories/day, but I think I'm closer to around 800/day. I can't imagine taking more carbs. I think that's from all the Atkin's dieting I have done in the past. Go figure.... she told me I didn't need to count carbs any more. Bread, toast, wheat products seem not to agree with me much anymore. I notice a lot of people post that they don't do bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, or basically anything starchy.
I still have a long way to go. When I started at the gym, they did a body fat analysis and it wouldn't get a reading, so they said "50% plus" but I had my trainer recheck it the other day and now it's 46.9% so at least it feels good to no longer be "off the scale" of the analyzer.

Congrats on joining the gym! I know of at least 7 others who lost lots of weight, along with muscle, from not joining the gym, and now are trying to build muscle or live with their newfound decrease in strength. The first thing the trainer told me was that I needed to gain 10 lbs in lean muscle and I thought I'd fall over. No one ever told me I needed to gain weight before.
I'm proud of you for being consistent with your diet and exercise. Take it easy and keep up the good work
