hi sandie, i am a new member and just read your post. i am sheryl in houston, tx. i had my surgery one week/one day ago on Friday, November 4th. i am at home now healing and working at adjusting to my new lifestyle. i am very iffy about everything, including if i am eating/drinking enough, whether i am getting enough protein & fluids to stay hydrated, and on and on. i actually feel good, except for the minor soreness/tenderness to my right side. before i go on too much, i would love to be pen pals. let me know if you are still in search. let me share that i do not get on-line daily. of course, i will be able to be on a lot more than normal since i am not working for the next few weeks. i pen pal snail mail style with lots of wonderful friends--for about 15 years now. it will be nice to have a friend who totally relates to what i am now going through. hope your saturday is going great. WLS Hugs, Sheryl

Hi I am also Cheryl from Houston (Katy) Tx and I just had my surgery 10/18/11 and I love this site I have learned so much and people are so ready to share their experiences. If you have room for more I would love to be your pen pal I am 56 and was afraid I was too old to do this but now I am so glad I have done it. Losing weight slowly but that is the way I told my doctor I wanted to do it and he did the surgery accordingly. Have chicken and fish always made you sick? Have you tried shrimp ****tail, shrimp is very high in protein. Do you like tunafish? Eggs are a good source of protein too. Are you chewing your food so it is almost pureed and then swallowing it or try putting a little chicken stock in it to help it go down. Do you have a support group in your area that you can go to and talk to others about your problem? Give me a little more info and maybe I or some of the very helpful members can help you. Try to relax and not stress too much over this and things will all work themselves out. If all this fails go to your doctor or nutritionist and find alternatives. Let me know how things turn out.

Hello ladies,
I had the RNY May 15Th....I know what you mean about chicken. couldn't eat it for a long time. At first I thought was gonna be a vegetarian, could handle meat. But now I do eat meat and you will too. My PA told me to eat anything with 2 eyes,,he he. Animal protein is the best kind for you.
Oh, and I'm 44/male from Texas and single

Hello everyone in this thread.
I am a woman from Michigan and I too have had the RNY in June of 11. It has been a journey thats for certian. There was / is a great deal that they do not fully tell you about.
I have lost 116 pound in almost 6 months. Loving it all.
Oh yes...chicken...yikes...I can eat it now but no way for the longest time. Don't give up trying... or wait a couple of months.
There is an orange liquid protein that is the best tasting I have found. 100% Protien it is called. It is in a tall glass jar and it is solid orange. You can get it at any health food store. I saved me. There are other protien suppliments out there as well. For the longest time I could not tolerate milk, so my whey protien shake was O U T. But now I can drink it just fine. It takes almost 7 months for your body to even adjust to just the surgery and then to the other changes can take over a year. The best advice I can give you is to be patient and relax into the journey.
If I can be of any help to you, please just reach out.
I also am fairly versed on nutrition and exercise / weight training and cardio.
Walk, walk , walk, walk.... make it a real habit.
And track your food.... now and forever !!! Start now and get used to doing it.. we can slip into high calories and not know it.
I wish you blessings and sucess.
Take care and Merry Christmas
