Ontario Canada Guy looking for a support pal
My applogies if this is a repeat to the secret pal message board but I thought I'd post here as well :)
Looking for a pal that had an RNY or is about to....
Looking for some more insight to the RNY Surgery and to meet nice people who have also had it done or are on the way to getting it. I myself am 2-3 months away from the surgery.

Hi!
My name is Rebecca and I'm posting from our family farm in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.
I've been overweight literally all my life. I went from normal sized at birth to chubby kid, to morbidly obese adult by my 20s. I have always believed that if you visualize success it will come your way but I can't for the life of me imagine myself thin. It sure is an interesting exercise to try, though! The most weight I've ever lost was 100 lbs in 1985 using the Richard Simmons program, then I gained it all plus more back. The closest I came to my goal weight was 30 lbs but I wasn't prepared for all the changes that came with drastic weight loss. Now there's so much more information available from research into the psychology of obesity as well as the physiology of it.
I'm hoping to have RNY by summer's end. I've been working toward it since January 2008, first with one clinic then, due to insurance requirements, with another. I have to say I'm feeling much more optimistic with my new surgeon and his staff than I did with the other. The first surgeon refused to see me when I gained 2 pounds after nine months of jumping through hoops and no weight gain. It was very demoralizing.
Though I didn't get serious about the surgery until 2008, I've been researching WLS and attending seminars and support groups since 2001. I've read many books but the best I've read is a fantastic little book that has helped me to really prepare for life after surgery. It's called "The Emotional First Aid Kit" and I found it on Amazon.com. Another good one for reference is "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies."
I look forward to relearning what it means to be active. I'm already reintroducing my body to activity by working out in a pool and I'm interested in trying Nordic Walking someday soon. I have arthritic knees and a damaged ankle due to a car wreck so I've had to start slow. Sometimes I get in a hurry and overdo, though.
Well, that's about all I can think to write about for now. I hope you're enjoying a good weekend and that I'll hear from you soon!
Always,
Rebecca

Hi there,
I had my surgery in March of 2008. I recently moved back to the U.S. from Europe and am living in North Carolina. I had many, many problems in the beginning, so I can give you lots of info! :)
I started at 320lbs and got down to 153lbs. That was a bit small and my friends were worried about me. When I went to visit my daughter she told me I looked like a "crack *****" Kids are great aren't they! I gained a bit back, and felt perfect at 160-165lbs. Unfortunately, due to marriage problems and depression, I have recently gained too much and am up to 197lbs. I am completely horrified, and that is probably what made me come back and visit obesity help. I don't think I have been on for over two years. I feel much better after reading many of the posts and I plan on starting the 5 day pouch test tomorrow! I am confident that along with that, as well as the nice Spring weather and getting my butt outside and moving, I will lose the regained weight.
Anyway, as you can see, it is an ongoing thing. A work in progress, if you will. The surgery is definitely not the end, it is just the beginning. I can tell you with complete honesty that it has been the hardest thing I have ever done, and that I would do it all over again in a minute!
Any time you have any questions or just want to chat, send me an email.
Renee

Darren,
I'd be happy to be a support pal for you. I had my RNY done last month on the 10th and I've already lost 41 pounds! So far, it's been a pretty easy process for me, but I've very good about following all the rules. So, no problems with nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etc. Hopefully, this good road will continue.
I live in Arizona, but grew up overseas in Germany (the land of really good food)! Like most folks here on the website, I've been overweight/obese for most of my adult life. I was a card-carrying member of the weight loss/regain rollercoaster. The RNY has changed all that for me. I'm excited to see the numbers on the scale going down bit by bit every week and my relationship with food has changed dramatically for the better.
I've researched the RNY surgery for the past ten years, but only last year finally got an insurance company that covered it. Yay!
Anyway, drop me a line if you have a question about anything! Take care!
