My name is Cheri.  I am 33 years old.  I have been overweight for a long time.  I have tried numerous diets with no relief.  I recently decided that I was going to do surgery to help me lose weight.  I just started the process for gastric bypass.  I originally spoke with the surgeon about having the lapband done but then after talking to several friends about the gastric bypass I decided that this was the route for me.  I am so scared, nervous and excited all in one.  I am looking to find a pen pal who either has had it done who can exchange their challenges or looking for someone who is getting it done.  Any and all help is appreciated!!!!!!

Hi, My name is Frank and i am new to this site.

I actually have my surgery in 5 days (9/15) and i'm not as nervous as i thought i would be (maybe the day of might be worse but who knows)

what point of the process are you at.  The reason i ask is because of what my insurance company had me do before they would approve the surgery it is over a year since i started the process

If i can help with any questions i will sure try

talk soon

Hi Frank,

I just started... I saw the psych and I have a nutrion appt on Tues and then next wed i have to have the egd done.  I have recently been told i have to do a weightl loss clinic which has been set up with my surgeons office but by the way they are talking it will be within 3 months.  my insurance approved it but said i had to have these things done.  The make you jump through hoops to get the surgery.  Good luck with your surgery! Let me know how it goes and how you feel...

Talk to you soon!

well today is Sunday and i am 3 days away from my surgery, starting to get a little nervous but not too much.  My insurance made me go through a Dr supervised diet for 7 months in a row so it has taken me well over a year since my first  visit to my Dr for the surgery to where i am today.

I guess my biggest questions are finding what to eat once i get back to the soild food stage.

My problem really wasn't over eating as much as it was eating ALL the WRONG things, Things fill with Empty calories, sugars and fat.

I am so looking forward to Wed and starting my new begining.

My name is Beth and I am 32 years old.  I had my gastric bypass on 7/20/2010 and have lost 67 lbs so far.  I am extremely excited with the results I've gotten so far.  My biggest challenge was not knowing when to stop eating and trying to force in what I thought my serving should be.  So I did up-chuck quite a bit.  The surgery itself was a breeze.  I had never had surgery before so I was very very nervous.  I checked in at 10 am that morning had the surgery at 11am and then was released from the hospital the next day at noon.  The pain was very manageable and was especially more comfortable at home.  I took 2 weeks off from work and needed ever bit of that time.  Mostly because bending was difficult and I was so tired.  Advice:  pick up some binding undergarments.  Spandex tanks work great.  To me it felt better to have something to hold things together.  I still wear them to look smoother.  I've gone from a 26 to a small 18 or large 16, kind of in between sizes.
