Lapband buddy wanted! Just had surgery 2/18
Hello,
My name is Linda and I am from NH. I am 42, a teacher, and I just had LapBand surgery on 2/18. I am married with two young children. I would LOVE to find a buddy to email that recently had it done as well. I am looking for someone to be able to share our weightloss journey together. If you are interested in sharing notes....please email me.
Looking forward to meeting you!

Hi Linda,
I am 43 years old and I too am married and I have 3 children. My children are 4, 6 and 8. The only regret I have in regards to the band is that I didn't have the procedure sooner. I am 9 weeks out and I have lost 37 pounds. I went to the surgeon for my 6 week fill and my surgeon decided to wait another month for the fill since I was losing at a great rate (I was down 30 pounds at that visit). I think two lifestyle changes which occurred truly helped me in my weight loss; eliminating diet Coke completely and eating breakfast (I have my protein shake in the am). I find I am not hungry until lunch, I eat reasonable portions, try to make good conscience choices for snacks and I am so delighted to lost the weight! I know that with the band the weight loss is slower, but I am OK with that, in fact, I think a rapid weight loss might result in other issues (i.e. excess skin which might have to be removed surgically).
Tell me about your journey. I found the full liquids and mushy foods the most challenging! I hope you are experiencing success in your weight loss. I wish you well and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Maria,
I am glad to hear that you have no regrets and are doing really well with it. Congrats on the great weight loss already! That is wonderful!
So, I have two kids ages 2 and 6, a boy and girl.....they really were my motivators to lose weight. I want to be around for them a long time and to be able to swim with them, have energy, and be a good role model.
So- as of today I am two weeks out from surgery. It has been a rocky road for me.....I am still on full liquids slowly starting to incorporate some of the mushy food. I have been having some burning and tighness problems in my throat. It is slowly getting better, but not fast enough for me (I want all my mushy food now!). I did have my first scrambled egg tonight and it was the best egg that ever hit my lips!
What really led me on the lapband road is a friend of mine who had got it 1 1/2 years ago. When I heard she was getting the surgery, I told myself that I was going to lose all my weight before she did with surgery. I was determined. Sure enough, 1 year and a half later....she is down 94 pounds and a few pounds from her goal....and I am 10 pounds heavier. Her success really inspired me. I attended the info. seminar last July. I had a borderline BMI when I began but because of discovering that I have sleep apnea, I got insurance approval. So.....here I am today. I am down a total of 14 pounds (8 lbs since surgery). It is actually nice to put on my clothes in the morning and not feel them being tight! It is also very weird not to feel hunger.
Well, I hope to talk toyou soon!

Hi Linda,
We must be kindred souls....when I went to for my annual physical in 2008, I mentioned to my doc that I need to lose weight. He suggested talking to someone about bariatric surgery. I said to him you know I will try to lose weight on my own for a year. Well when I returned in 2009 for my annual, I hadn't lost any weight and now I have to take medication for high cholestorol and I now have borderline diabetes. That's when I told my doc, ok I think I need to investigate weight loss options. I too hope to get healthy to be able to be active with my children.
I think 8 pounds 2 weeks out is a great loss! I was lucky in that I only had to do one week of liquids, one week or mushy and one week of soft foods. Just remember to eat slow and chew well. I seemed to have eliminate bread from my diet, since I had an experience with a bite from a sandwich. I know that I can't eat greasy foods (I tried a few chips and had an upset tummy all evening). Of course, each person is different - I hope that you find that you are not limited to too many foods.
I too have a friend and she had the surgery in April 2009 and she's down 70 lbs. I don't like to compare myself to her, because we have different amounts to lose. I started my journey at 225, according the "US weight chart" I am supposed to lose 100 lbs, bringing me to 125. Personally, I don't know when I last weighted 125! I would still consider my self a success if I could get down to 140. I was delighted when I left the 200's and just recently the 190's, I keep telling myself that each little loss adds up to the big weight loss number.
Keep in touch and enjoy the mushy phase!
