Vertical Sleeve surgery 3/17/09 Dr Li Baltimore , MD
I am now 4 days out from surgery and I am on day 2 of the juice fast. I am having serious hunger pangs and can not start the shakes for 2 more days . has any one else experienced this raging hunger? I am surprised and perplexed as I never thought I would be hungery my first day home. I have been walking aroundf my apt alot but I have not felt strong enought to walk outside, yet my instructions read that brisk walking is strongly encouraged !! I remember going a week juice fast while in college many years ago and I am amazed that I was able to stick with it . I keep putting my nose in abox of very stale crackers just to have the smell of real food ( I am pitiful). My surgeon Dr. Christina Li is amazing and was very supportive of me throught out . she idid keep me an extra day bc my o2 levels were not above 94 consistently. I have been using the breathing thingy 10x perhour and I am getting a bit light headed. I am feeling so impatient I whipped up a protein shake for 2 days ffrm now jusyt to have something to do. I amalso experiencing runny gassy stools witha very foul smell ( sorry for being so graphic) . has any one else experiencied this? how about the insatiable hunger? My start weight is 201 lbs. Please write back if youn have any words of wisdom to share
Hi!
I am going to get a VSG soon. Have my consultation on April 9th and can't wait!! There is a VSG forum that you might benefit from. They have many experienced people there who are ready to help. I would love to keep in touch with you and see how you progress, if you don't mind. I am in Hilliard, OH. I think, since your body has gone through such a major surgery, it takes time for things to settle back down and adjust to the changes. I thought you weren't suppose to feel hungry since they remove the ghrelin(sp*?) when they do surgery. I have also heard that what feels like hunger can be acid reflux, and doctors usually put you on a pill for it like Prilosec. I have been lurking around VSG forum and have researched a lot, and gone through past posts and gotten SO much info. I hope you feel better soon! Take care!
