Dear Luchay,

My name is Carole & I live in San Marcos... I am to have surgery (gastric) in Mid March... I am 59 but don't feel it... If you would like to pen pal me it would be terrific... Where are you having it done? I am having it done by Southwest Bariatric Surgeons (Dr Marquis) in Round Rock.. I go in for pre surgical tests on 3/3... I will say a prayer that all goes well for you! We can go through recovery together!

God Bless and Be Good To Yourself

Carole,

not sure if i posted this message to you or back to myself the first time, so here it is:

Howdy Carole,

Thanks for responding. I would like to be pen pals. I have a couple of other friends around here that have been banded or had the gastric bypass. Mindy lives in buda, renee in cedar park, mary in austin and me in cedar creek. we are all spread out but have a common bond. at some point i want us to get together and have a meet up. i am getting my band done in mexico- dr natarez in juarez. after two weeks of exhaustive research, i feel confident with dr natera and his surgical staff, the hospital and the route i am to take to the hospital in juarez is the safest you can get down there. i was really nervous for the two prior weeks, but now just ready. ready to have the surgery and get on with my life. ready to eat and exercise to maximum benefit post band-no jacking around. this is day three of my liquid only pre op diet (2 more days to go) then leave at 4:30 wednesday morning for elpaso. question, how is a person like me supposed to stick to a pre op diet of liquid only? well, i have done pretty well. no cheating really, i did eat a boiled egg yesterday and today, some ff sugar f pudding, but other than that, really sticking to it. i can eat plain yogurt and jello, so i figured ff sf pudding made with 1% milk and water is ok. i always have been a rule breaker. i am one of those self pay puppies, so that is why i am going to mexico. i plan on doing my follow up here with a doc close by...
59 huh, well, guess we are here to prove life begins anytime we are ready for change, right!
i am not sure what to expect, i have read alot of posts and blogs, and seems most folks are different, but most are also very happy with their surgery. i am amazed at the before and after pics i see on the website. i am still trying to figure out how to get my picture on this site so i can post an after picture later. not the most computer literate. do you know how to post a picture?
back to you!

Hi Ya,

First of all let me say I had considered Mexico as well and if it were my money most likely would of done a self pay as well but not working I wouldn't put that on my husband... be that as it may! After 18 mo. of trying to get this done it looks as though I can see a glimmer of light in the ol tunnel...
You have convinced me to go on a diet (liquid mostly****il I hear something. My insurance co. had me go on a regimented diet and wouldn't cover me  unless I had a BMI of 40 or above consistantly for 6 mo..so what do I do, I eat like there is no tomorrow...everything from cinnabuns to chocolate chip cookie dough by the container! I was determined not to loose weight! Well I didn't and in fact gained 30! Now I am regretting it, as everyone said, "well ya, 40 or above, but ya didn't have to go to 43!) I figure maybe if I start a liquid diet now, hopefully I will have less time before the surgery is done. Let me ask you something though. The advocate (which a real duntz) told me that I will need to have the surgery within 2 wks after they do the pre op test (ie. blood ect)... or they will have to do them all over again??!! That being said, I have it all done on the 3rd at the hospital in Round Rock where I will have the surgery...

Are you driving to Mexico... do be careful and keep your doors locked (and don't talk to strangers who wear a big hat!) You will do just fine, and after researching the Mexican drs. as well I am certain you made a wise choice..

Ya, I think it would be a kick to have a luncheon with all our new friends... (SlimFast drive-in sounds likely!)

Take care and will talk to you soon...

Hi Carole,

I forgot to tell you my name is Liz . Luchay is my sign on. No, I am not driving. my husband and i are flying from austin to el paso and the hospital staff is picking us up and driving us straight to the hospital, about 20 minute drive . it is not safe in juarez so we wont be doing any sightseeing or shopping at all. just stay in the hospital and hotel right next door- one night, then back to the airport on friday. i will be happy when we are on our way home. that is crazy to require someone to have to gain weight to qualify for the surgery, but i sure would have done the same thing. you gained weight and i'm going to mexico so we can have this life changing surgery . i would think the pre op testing is only good for a short time, two weeks probably sounds about right. did you say what day you were having the surgery? yes- start on a liquid diet. if you get starving, eat some protein- no carbs! a boiled egg or peice of chicken breast. dring protein shakes high in protein- very low in carbs and sugar. clear liquids- low sugar fruit juice, chicken broth (drain it off the chicken noodle soup-much better)....crystal light, plain low fat yogurt and jello. you will drop some weight and it will be easier on you. sounds like you are on your way. i am ready. i could go tomorrow, but wednesday will get here soon enough.
talk to you soon- my home email is [email protected]

God Bless you Girl!

Well by the time you read this you will probably all ready be home and the operation a success! It sounded as though you would do just fine... I saw on TV this morning about another border guard getting killed but missed where.. I am relieved that you are going to be picked up and returned... My son in law grew up in El Paso and let me just say, "it ain't Austin"...

Thanks so very much for the diet plan... I will start today... My mind keeps telling me "better eat this and better eat that" cause this is the last time for quite awhile you will be able to have it... but that is only putting on more weight! Thanks for the insite.. I have all the testing done the 3rd then I will hopefully have a date for like I said, it should be mid March. My husband just had a prostratectomy.. He was diagnoised with cancer and they operated and took it out Wed. so he is recooperating! Lord, I will assume you know just how terribly "bad" men can be.. Hell, with all my operations, and there have been many, I was up and about in a day or so.. I had to be or starve and dig the shovel out to clean the house.. It has been what, 7 days after his operation, and he still can only get the bathroom and back again to the couch! I have become maid and servant. But I can't complain too much as in acouple of weeks it will be me that he will have to help! I am going to play this one up to the hilt! lol

Well, please email and let me know how you are doing.. My email is as follows: [email protected] ... You are in my prayers

Cheers  Carole
