ABOUT ME...

Hey Iris, I love the picture in your sig line. It has always been a dream of mine to learn how to be a gormet chef. Maybe I will take a few classes, I don't even know how to chop celery right...lol I like to go to the rennasaince fairs when they come around, so much fun.  I really hope we can make this an "Off Topic" forum that we can all enjoy. Pass the word.

Lyndee, I followed this post over from the lap-band forum and am glad to find some friendly discussion! I am a 54-yr-old self-employed product design consultant (decorative home accessories) and novelist (see my website: www.jeanmcmillan.com) who lives in northwest Tennessee with my wonderful husband of almost 21 yrs and 2 dogs, a French bulldog named Georgie and a pug named Polly.  They are our only children.  My 88-yr-old mom lives nearby in a great assisted living facility after 30 yrs of living in upstate NY, and it is great to have her close again.  My hobbies are reading (mostly mysteries) and rubber-stamping and some scrapbooking.  I travel a lot for my work - have been to Europe, India, all over Asia, and several countries in South America - so when I take time off, I stay put in our home which is on 4.3 acres out in the countryside.  Most of our neighbors are farmers.  My husband is a retired corrections officer (State of CT) who now works in Grounds & Maintenance at the Univ. of Tenn. I'm excited because one of my dearest friends, who is Chinese and lives in Hong Kong (where I first met her) is coming to visit us on Feb. 11th and we will take her out to eat to celebrate her 51st birthday.  She hasn't seen me since surgery so I'm curious to see her reaction to the new me.  When I was first turned down by my insurance company (a decision reversed after I appealed it), she offered to lend me the money to pay for the surgery, God bless her. WLS has been a great adventure for me.  I was inspired to do it by jealousy of and admiration for a friend who had RNY, and I'm so glad I did it  Health benefits galore, a new & healthier relationship with food, among other things. Jean, It's nice to meet you. I have seen you on the lap band board, but our paths have not crossed yet.  I love to decorate, it is kind of a hobbie of mine, I would love to have your job, it would be so much fun for me. I bet you see alot of really neat stuff. Wow, you have been published, congratulations, that is so cool!!! I am not much of a writer, can hardly write a post...lol I hope you come back, I would like for this to take off, we could meet people from all of the boards and make some new friends.

Hi everybody (wave to Noel),

Hmm, about me. Let's see. I am almost 50, a translator, a dual US/Swedish citizen and live in Sweden on the shore of a beautiful lake. I've been married for almost 16 years, very happily, and have a 32-year-old daughter (mine biologically, my husband's by adoption). We have a lab named Satchmo, a golden named Tootsie, and a 16-year-old Persian cat named Grumpy (and he is).

Other than working, I like to read - a lot - and travel whenever I can, and am interested in interior decorating and restoring antique houses, and I enjoy history, movies, and architecture.

Weird fact about me: when I'm on a roll, I can type something like 130 words a minute. I speak fluent Swedish and understand, but cannot speak, written Danish and written and spoken Norwegian.

Like Noel, I believe kindness is probably the paramount virtue in life and though I fail more often than I would like, I try to practice kindness and compassion.

My favorite singers are Bob Dylan and k.d. lang, my favorite crime novelist is Reginald Hill and my overall favorite writer is probably Willa Cather, but I change my mind about that a lot. My favorite painters are van Gogh, Manet, and a contemporary watercolorist named Lars Lerin.

And now I had better get back to work!

It sounds like you have a very wonderful life. Someday I would like to go to sweden and norway to see where my grandmother came from.  Check back often, Lyndee

I'm Dot, live in "middle of nowhere" Oklahoma (NO beaches around here!) 36 years old, married for 15 years to Josh, have two daughters, Serena 14 years and Miranda 9 years. I'm pre-op waiting for approval.  Don't work outside the home...  Have a 10 year old chih-woodle (chihuahua-poodle mix) dog named Gizmo, a Maine Coon cat named Tikal (pronounced Ty-cal) and my 14 year old's boy friend gave her a little kitten for Christmas that she named Misty. Yeah, it's like a zoo here! That's about all I can think of at the moment to talk about. DOt

I go by Contessa. I'm Italian and am married to an Italian.

I'm 39 years old, a native of California. I've been teaching for 18 years. Currently, I teach junior high English.

Married since 2004 to the most wonderful man in the world. We've been together since 1998. We have a 2-year-old son. My DH is a Navy Seal Reservist who is deployed to the MidEast right now. He's been gone for 9 months and will be gone another 8 months. He's an investment advisor in his "real life."

I love heavy metal music, fast cars, traveling to Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Belize; eating out, and Pom martinis. Since WLS, I've had one-half of a ****tail during a celebration.
