Need a Mentor and/or Someone on PreCert Diet to Share the Journey
I would like to find a mentor, i.e. someone who is about my age and station in life and who has gone through the RNY who is willing to help guide me through this. AND/OR I would like to find someone who is in the same boat as me, i.e. just starting the precert diet and who wants to vent and cheer each other along.
I am having a tough time dealing with the precert supervised diet. Not because I can't do it, but because I have been researching and soul searching since 2003 and I am now ready to go. At the last minute I found out that I have to do this 6 month thing (like I haven't lost weight and gained it back more times than I can count). Anyway, other than that I am pretty excited about this whole process.
While I wait for surgery I have become very educated about this process. In fact, my hubby says I am obsessed with it all and I think he is probably right. In fact, I am probably driving my skinny friends and family nuts. I would be happy to share all that I know with someone and/or learn more (I am sure there is much still to learn).
I would like to find someone who is not too far off of my age (I am 43) and might have other things in common with me. It would be great if you live in the St. Louis, Missouri area, or plan on using (or have used) Dr. de la Torre as your surgeon, but that isn't necessary.
I am married, have no kids (two kitties and a little dog are our kids) and I am an attorney by trade (but not presently working).

Hi Jennifer, My name is Mary, my insurance requires 6 mos of supervised diet prior to surgery...I am struggling as well...I have done alot of research about RNY, I think I could inform my insurance provider some... ah well... they are requiring 6 mos of supervised dieting and meeting with a dietian... it's been hard, I worry if I lose too much weight my claim will be denied, if I don't lose enough, it will be denied...just had a peanut binge... If I could keep weight off, why would I be doing this??? :O
I am 36, a counselor in Ohio. Masters degree, work in MRDD field, do some crisis counseling on the side. I have a very supportive partner, and three hansome kittens and one pretty pouch. I feel your frustration! Am looking for a pen pal as well. Mary
