I'm new and need friends
My name is Marie and I am waiting to be approvedfor LAP-BAND and I do not have many friends who know about the surgery everyone I try to explain it to thinks I'm nuts to do such a drastic thing to my body they just don't understand that being this heavy is a drastic thing to live through. I am very shy so I have problems making friends and I go to my support groups but I sit in the back of the room. I hope some one is out there who will be understandable. THANK YOU!!!

Lots of people do think we are crazy for doing something so drastic, but they do not understand the pain we go through on a daily basis being overweight. Surgery is drastic, but worth it when everything else has failed. I'm glad you came to the boards, there are many people here to support you. Good luck with everything and I hope you get your approval soon!

Good luck on getting your approval, and welcome to the OH boards. There are alot of people out there that just don't understand our needs to have this surgery, that is why I chose to keep my surgery "quiet and to myself" I didn't care to hear the good or bad news anyone wanted to share with me. My parents, 1 of my brothers and my hubby are the only ones that know, and hope to keep it that way. I had my surgery on Aug. 16th of this year and since the beginning of all my pre-op, I am down a total of 41 lbs. I would love to scream it to the world, but know it is best to keep quiet and deal with it when someone notices my weight change. I would love to hear back from you, and am here for you if you need anything. Please keep in contact, I understand completely where you are coming from.
