kimberly - So sorry you are having such a hard time getting the insurance. I would love to be a penpal, but am not sure we are a match. I did not have WLS, but lost 150 lbs. My interest on this site is more the plastic surgery end of things. I'm 51, three adult daughters and five and counting grandchildren. You are more than welcome to write me, but I would understand if you don't. We seem to be on different wavelengths here. But, you have no responses yet, and I know how that feels, so wanted to connect with you. Best of luck - I hope everything works out for you. Lee

Hi Kimberly, I read your post and profile and said I need to email her I can relate. I too was denied by my insurance and it sucks. Last year my pcp told me I needed to loose weight (like I didn't already know that) he does a program liquid diet which did not interest me because I knew that it would not work, I need food. He also said I qualified based on my bmi for wls. He gave me the name of a surgeon that he knows and has referred other patients to. I went in November 05 for the consult and decided I wanted to do it and decided on the lap band. One thing I like about this office is all testing is done there except the cardiologist. I complete all my testing and get a letter from my pcp-*****ferred me and I got denied, this was Dec 05. I asked why and they said I did not have a 6 month weight loss documented program. Of course I was furious at my pcp . He has written these letters before and I had actually been seeing a nutritionist at his office for about 4 months. So needless to say I was upset and extremely disappointed I had just assumed I would be approved and have surgery in either Jan or Feb. I spoke to Laura at the surgeons office and she said I would have to do the medically approved 6 month nutr/doc visits. Now with my insurance I also need to see the doctor. I started in April 06 and will be complete in Sept. Like you said the diet is such a waste of time, I guess they just want to see if we will stick it out. If we are willing to have surgery they should realize that we are serious about this. I sometimes think they just deny hoping we will give up and they won't have to pay. They picked the wrong person, I refuse to give up and we are going to resubmit in Sept and go for an Oct date. How did your resubmit go? It is funny that some insurances have a 6 month plan or a 12 month plan for the diet. I wish you luck and will say a prayer that they approve you. Good luck and keep up the good work no matter how they try to discourage you.
